Narrated by Forest Whitaker and directed by Jake Sumner, “Seaweed Stories” is a vibrant, global look at the wonders of seaweed, and some of the extraordinary stories and characters whose lives have been entangled by this often overlooked marine plant. From Sway creating plastic alternatives from macroalgae, to the Indigenous Shinnecock Kelp Farmers using seaweed to prove their sovereign right to coastal land, and a scientist in South Korea supporting seaweeds’ sexual reproduction to create new species that can withstand the effects of a changing climate, the film shares how seaweed may hold answers to some of humanity’s biggest challenges… Presented by Lonely Whale in association with Re:wild. Made possible by the generous support of executive producers Phillip Sarofim, Trousdale Ventures, MAVRIK CORP., and co-executive producer The Snider Foundation. This week we had the honor of privately previewing our forthcoming documentary, #SeaweedStories, aboard the RETI Center's barge in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Narrated by Forest Whitaker and directed by Jake Sumner, Seaweed Stories is a vibrant, global look at the wonders of seaweed, and some of the extraordinary stories and unique characters - including first place Prize winner Julia Marsh of Sway - whose lives have been entangled by this often overlooked marine plant which may hold answers to some of humanity's biggest challenges. After the preview, our host Sam Fleischner, founder of Rockaway Film Festival, led a conversation about storytelling and community-led solutions. The panel featured Tim Gilman of RETI Center, Danielle Hopson Begun of the Shinnecock Kelp Farmers and our incredible director Jake Sumner. Thanks to our Executive Producers Phillip Sarofim Trousdale Ventures, MAVRIK CORP., and co-executive producer The Snider Foundation for the generous support which brought this film to life. Seaweed Stories is presented by Lonely Whale in association with Re:wild. #climateweek #storytelling #seaweed #innovation #unwrapthefuture

Notpla, a recent winner of the Prize, was introduced to Trousdale Ventures, led by Phillip Sarofim, through our program. Notpla takes Times Square🗽 Step into the heart of New York City with us as we unveil a behind-the-scenes look at Notpla's big moment. Yesterday, amidst the buzz of Climate Week, our announcement lit up the Nasdaq Tower surrounded by our partners and supporters. This milestone isn't just ours - it belongs to everyone who's been part of our journey and has believed in our mission. 🙌 At the core of Notpla is a simple yet powerful idea: restore the health of our planet, and demonstrate how sustainability and convenience can work hand in hand to replace single-use plastics. Over 100 million single-use plastics per year within two years, to be exact. It's an ambitious goal, but with our recent $25 million funding boost, we're more prepared than ever to make it a reality. Curious to see how it all unfolded? Watch the video below ⬇ #Notpla #SustainablePackaging #Sustainability #Seaweed #NYClimateWeek #NasdaqTower
