🗞️ Hot off the press! 🗞️ We're excited to share that a peer-reviewed article focusing on Lyssn's machine learning tools for evaluating crisis calls has been published. Thank you again National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) for the grant to support research focused on developing AI to support 988. 🌟 The study found that our ML models, trained on ~200,000 de-identified crisis call statements, showed 98% agreement with human raters in detecting risk assessment. We believe that this technology has the potential to significantly enhance quality improvement in crisis counseling. 🔎 As a part of our commitment to #qualityAI for health and human services, we test our tools and submit findings to peer reviewed journals to ensure the most rigorous, transparent validation of our data and tools. 👉 Take a look at the comments for a link to the study. #MachineLearning #MentalHealth #CrisisCounseling #AI #Crisiscare #Aiforgood #ethicalAI

There's a lot of claims being made about the impact of AI in healthcare, but some are not backed diverse data and research. Our Chief Science Officer, Michael Tanana, unpacks why this is essential for AI in mental health. "Particularly in healthcare, lots of companies are making wild claims [about their use of AI], but not many have the data to support what they're doing...Our academic background helps us think about putting a value on client safety and balancing ethics with innovation. Healthcare demands a higher standard than the typical Silicon Valley way of doing things."

We're thrilled that the State of Utah is taking AI within the mental health sector seriously 👏 Utah has launched an Office of Artificial Intelligence to address the evolving tech landscape, focusing initially on mental health care and AI. The office will collaborate with government and industry to foster innovation, protect consumers, and make policy recommendations, starting with examining the use of generative AI in mental health care. In the interest of patient safety and data security, artificial intelligence, especially generative AI, should pass a series of strict evaluations before being introduced into any type of mental health treatment or workflow. Stay tuned for our team's recommendations on this topic 🤔

🚨Breaking news🚨 Lyssn is not just for therapists. Of course, we love our customers that work in more traditional therapy settings, but Lyssn was actually built for much more. Today, our AI training and quality improvement tools support caseworkers, crisis call takers, researchers, or other frontline mental health workers that are trying to increase their impact within their community. Here is our CEO David Atkins explaining more about who Lyssn supports.

In a recent analysis of our online peer-to-peer community, we discovered some groundbreaking findings: 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹’𝘀 #𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰, meaning it contains the same benefits and elements as traditional mental health services, like in-person counselling. Lyssn, a leading evaluator of mental and behavioural health services, found through their analysis of our community that our #TrainedPeers contributed especially high levels of active listening, empathy, validation, and other therapeutic qualities. In fact, these contributions were higher than the benchmark comparison of a mental health community center, offering traditional mental health services, like therapy and coaching. 👉 Learn more about our recent research: https://lnkd.in/exXn9hWm #peersupport #research #groundbreaking

AI guardrails in health and human services are not just recommended, but essential. We loved the recommendations Mathematica shared with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) on leveraging AI to enhance operations while ensuring equity, governance, privacy, and security: "The pace of AI development and deployment is rapid, and without rigorous equity, governance, privacy, and security controls, as well as research and evidence on the impacts of AI, these advances could result in more harm than good,” wrote Mathematica. “AI should be viewed as an additive technology that supports human decision making by helping place relevant and practical insights at the fingertips of agency staff, practitioners, and policymakers." The barrier to entry for developing AI tools is now at an unprecedented low, making it crucial for individuals and organizations to become informed consumers of AI. While AI holds significant potential to support caseworkers in the child welfare sector, it's imperative to ensure that the AI solutions implemented are safe, robust, and trained for the specific needs of health and human services. Prioritizing these considerations will enable AI to make a meaningful and positive impact. We've seen first hand that building #EthicalAI for this use case is possible! At Lyssn, we've been able to work with many state and local agencies to implement specialized AI training and quality assurance into child welfare teams to improve onboarding, meet FFPSA requirements, and increase service quality. If you would like to learn more, please feel free to shoot us a message!
