This month for #NextGen: Alyssa Duran, a fifth-year B. Arch student at City Tech, CUNY. Alyssa was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, where her passion for storytelling, visualization and environmental subjects sparked her interest in architecture. Her goal is to be part of the next generation of architects who address global challenges with creativity and sustainability in mind. She finds inspiration in art, culture, and nature, which drives her design process to explore innovative ways to create positive change. Today on #MadameArchitect: Sana Frini, a Tunisian architect and the founder of Locus, a young office focusing on global southern practices in architecture, participatory processes, and climate resilience. Sana is co-curating the next Mexican Pavilion for the Venice Biennale 25’ with a team of architects lead by Ignacio Urquiza (Estudio IUAPdA), Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss (Pedro&Juana), Jachen Schleich (Locus), María Marín de Buen, Lucio Usobiaga Hegewisch, and Nathalia Muguet. She is also co-curating the architecture exhibition for the Île-de-France Architecture and Landscape Biennial 2025. Sana has been leading projects in rural housing prototypes, social housing, post-earthquake reconstruction projects, art installations, and projects for the academy. Her work has been shown at The Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2013), The Chicago Architecture Biennial (2018), and the Mexican Abierto Mexicano (2019). She has been awarded the Erasmus Fellowship (2008) the Erasmus Mundus Fellowship (2013/2015) and The Mexican National Art Creators System Grant (2017/2020). Today for #SharingNotes: Isolde Brielmaier, PhD, the Chief Strategy Officer at WOAH (Work of Art Holdings), a female-founded art and culture firm where she leads the company's vision and initiatives at the intersection of art, business, and social impact. With over two decades of experience spanning the private, public, academic, and nonprofit sectors, her expertise has guided brands and organizations through cultural engagement strategies and contemporary art initiatives across the globe. Previously, Brielmaier served as Deputy Director and Chief Innovation Officer at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City. Before that, Brielmaier was Executive Director of Arts, Culture & Community at Westfield World Trade Center. A scholar and practitioner, Brielmaier earned her PhD from Columbia University and is an Associate Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She is the author of I Am Sparkling (2022) and Culture as Catalyst (2020) and regularly contributes to various publications, including Air Mail, where she serves as Editor-at-Large. Teresa heads the Patron Programs for the Museum and engages with donors, key constituents, and local community members as a representative of PS1. She has dedicated her career to development and membership programs at art and design organizations, working at the Cooper Hewitt, Saatchi Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and as the Development Manager at AIA New York/Center for Architecture previous to joining the PS1 team. For her latest in our historical column, Kate Reggev, AIA focuses on the early female architects who designed innovative apartment buildings, affordable family-focused neighborhoods, and more. For many years, the thinking was that if women had to practice architecture, it should be only in the residential sector (who better to design a kitchen or a closet than those who used them so frequently!?). But when women entering the profession coincided with a national population boom and need for affordable housing, women were interested not just in the individual, single family home, but in everything from model tenements and entire working-class planned communities to housing policy and advocacy.
