Exciting news! We are pleased to announce the launch of the latest versions of our popular Best Practice series 🌟 These guides are designed to assist operators in making significant improvements in managing methane emissions throughout the natural gas supply chain. The topics covered in these publications include flaring, equipment leaks, venting, pneumatic devices, and operational repairs. Capturing a wealth of knowledge and insights from MGP members, the Best Practice Guides provide a summary of current known mitigations and available technologies.📚 Chris Rathbun, Program Manager of Methane Guiding Principles commented on the launch of the guides “The focus on methane detection and quantification in the oil and gas industry is more important than ever. Technological advancements in the past two decades have been game-changers, and the progress continues. By ensuring that everyone has access to the latest technology and knowledge as featured in these guides, we can reach our methane reduction goals faster.” Check out the updated Best Practice Guides 💡 at https://lnkd.in/dadWMkB3 #BestPracticeGuides #methaneemissions #MethaneGuidingPrinciples

Methane Guiding Principles was out in force at the Methane Mitigation Summit Series earlier this month in Austin, Texas. Chris Rathbun’s panel on developing a strategy to reduce methane emissions in non-operated joint ventures drove home the message that collaboration is critical for overall global methane reduction. This lesson came up again and again throughout the conference and reinforced the need for platforms like MGP to convene diverse stakeholders in this effort.🤝 The summit’s halls teemed with other big ideas and impactful organizations: 🛰️ Improvements in detection and measurement techniques—from drones to aircraft to satellites, including via innovators like GHGSAT—will provide enhanced transparency over emissions. Everyone is getting on the bandwagon to bridge major gaps in verification. ✅ The global push to improve measurement and reporting is accelerating as regulation ramps up, particularly in Europe. When it comes to regulation, organizations need to stay ahead of the curve, rather than scrambling to react to every new rule. It’s therefore great to see operators converge on UNEP's OGMP 2.0 as the North Star for reporting. The “gold standard” of L5 reporting will spread as companies up their game. ☠️ Methane leaks are not just an emissions issue—human health and safety are also at risk. It was great to hear this point hammered home by Seth Long, CEO of Shepherd Safety Systems, LLC in his insightful talk. 💸 Investment in methane mitigation is rising amid a landscape of increasing activity, particularly on the technological front. This was the message of an illuminating discussion featuring MGP supporting organization Climate Investment (CI). All in all, it was a fruitful two days of panels, meetings and networking. We look forward to seeing everyone in Austin again next year! Let us know your top takeaways in the comments. 💬 #methaneemissions #methane

📣 One of the five founding principles of Methane Guiding Principles is Transparency. We are therefore pleased to announce the release of our 2024 MGP Signatory Annual Reports which show how each of our methane emitting members are individually driving down methane emissions. In 2023 and into 2024, a focus of MGP signatories has been increased efforts of detection and measurement of methane emissions. The increased efforts came through the acceleration of leak detection and repair programs and use of different measurement technologies. 📉Each of the member reports highlights the methane reduction activities completed in 2023 and planned activities for 2024, and is aligned to each of the five Methane Guiding Principles which are: - continually reduce methane emissions - advance strong performance across the gas supply chain - improve accuracy of methane emissions data - advocate sound policy and - regulations on methane emissions and to improve transparency We are really enthused about the level of activities undertaken by all our members and how these collectively play a key role in global methane reduction efforts. 🌎 We welcome you to read the set of reports here: https://lnkd.in/de3hjQXN #ReduceMethaneEmissions #MethaneEmissions #ClimateAction #NetZero #MethaneGuidingPrinciples
