About us
Muttville is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the lives of senior dogs. On a local level, Muttville rescues senior dogs and finds them new homes or gives them hospice. On a global level, Muttville provides information about caring for older dogs and support for people who do. Through associations with shelters and other animal organizations, Muttville finds senior dogs that have been given up and are not likely to find adopted homes. Through outreach and networking, Muttville finds suitable new homes for these dogs. Ultimately, Muttville will have its own facility to house dogs that are not yet placed, or that are unlikely to be placed. Muttville was started in 2007 by Sherri Franklin, a longtime animal advocate and rescue worker. Sherri has spent years rescuing dogs, especially senior dogs. She recognized that the need was greater than she as an individual could ever address. So she decided to start Muttville, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of older dogs through foster, adoption, education, and community.

With designer Ken Fulk's visionary touch, Muttville’s new location redefines what a shelter can be. Our colorful space offers a cage-free environment for senior dogs, while also serving as a vibrant community hub for visitors. We're delighted that Glitz (L), from our "100 Dogs in 10 Days: Home for the Holidays" rescue effort (last December) is in the spotlight! She'd been featured on KPIX | CBS San Francisco/Bay Area. Nancy & Roger wanted a friend for their senior Chihuahua and said yes to Glitz! Now named Acorn, she's being cherished by her new family in Los Altos Hills. Love matches like this couldn't happen without the support of our fans like PEDIGREE Foundation! Thank you for always rooting for the oldies!!
Today's Adoption Tail is a real cutie! Meet Ria, a 10-pound miniature pinscher who is all spunk! She arrived at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue at about 11 years old, after her owners' lives were struck by tragedy. With a bad habit of resource guarding and special health needs - Ria has only three legs - Muttville knew she would need a very special family. She worked with Muttville's specialized foster team and behavioral team and soon after, found a loving family! As she transitioned into her new home, Ria and her new "paw-rents" all benefited from support from Muttville's behavior team. Ria is now doing well in her new home! PEDIGREE Foundation is proud to support Muttville's work to help senior dogs like Ria find families.

Muttville rescues at least 80 senior dogs a month. In an emergency like last year’s holiday crisis, we have been able to stretch to as many as 100 in 10 days. How can we save so many senior dogs – over 1,000 a year? Because of fans and supporters like you! Your support makes it possible to change the fate of dogs who, not that long ago, would have been considered “unadoptable” and immediately euthanized.
