That's a wrap on the Portales and Clovis Cabinet in Your Community events! Thank you to all who attended! The events provided residents with the opportunity to access a variety of state resources in one location, enroll in state programs, and speak with agencies about the work they're doing. NMHealth teams in attendance included the Immunization Program, New Mexico WIC, Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, Health Promotion, and the Violence Prevention Program. Our teams are here for you! • Find additional information about our programs at nmhealth.org. • Need a free gun lock? Over the weekend, City of Clovis staff and their families joined our Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program to prepare 500 individual fresh produce bags that will be distributed to local families! Volunteers, including Clovis Mayor Mike Morris and Assistant City Manager Claire Burroughes helped to pack the fresh produce bags for the Cabinet in Your Community events in Clovis and Portales this week. The produce, sourced from farmers in Santa Fe and the Veggie Shack, was meticulously harvested and delivered thanks to The Food Depot. David Sundberg from the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute played a crucial role in coordinating with the farmers to procure the fresh vegetables. The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico will pick up the produce bags and deliver them to the Cabinet in the Community on July 8th and 9th. We need YOU to complete a survey telling us about the key tasks you perform in your job! Your insights will help identify the essential functions of the workforce and support the creation of tools to improve education, recruitment, and retention. The survey is open through July 31, 2024. This survey explores 54 job tasks, asking how frequently you perform each one and their importance to your work. Plus, we’ll gather demographic information to better understand the context of who you are and where you work. Disaggregated and deidentified insights will be shared with public health offices to help advance the hiring process while protecting the anonymity of staff. Our hearts go out to those affected by the Ruidoso fires. Last week our community outreach specialists and care coordinators joined the disaster relief efforts at the evacuee resource center in Roswell to help members access care, medical services, hydration and hygiene items. The New Mexico Department of Health and Vdex Diabetes were there to provide health screenings in the BCBSNM Care Van® to everyone in need.

Reflecting on this year’s Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists conference in Pittsburgh! Such a privilege to connect with colleagues from across the country and gain insight to their projects. My favorite part was unexpectedly running into my first mentor, Chad Smelser, Deputy State Epi, who let me mentor him at the New Mexico Department of Health when I was in middle school! It was such a wholesome full circle moment, affirming my pursuit of public health. I was radiating with gratitude for all the mentors and teachers I’ve had that have supported me over the years. And, of course, glad to have attended all the tick talks. (When do we get to invest in a giant mosquito suit? For science. Professional question) 🦟🕷️

Cabinet Secretary Patrick Allen has announced that Robert Nott has been named Communications Director for NMHealth. For the past 25 years, Robert has been a reporter for the Santa Fe New Mexican. As a reporter, Robert covered the arts, public education, historical pieces, veterans’ affairs, and state government – including NMHealth during the COVID pandemic. His varied background includes a stint in military intelligence with the U.S. Air Force and working in theater as a director, actor and playwright both in New York City and Santa Fe. He is also the author of five non-fiction books about Western films. His most recent book, about the 1962 film classic Ride the High Country, was published by UNM Press this spring. "I knew during the interview process with NMHealth employees that this is an agency full of people who want to do their best to improve the health and welfare of New Mexicans and save lives,” said Robert. “I’m happy to be part of the team.” Welcome to NMHealth Robert!
