New York-based architecture firm designing for a better urban future
About us
Since its inception in 2007, ODA has quickly emerged as one of the most recognized firms of its generation, promptly establishing a reputation for delivering imaginative and mold-breaking designs. Seeking to reorder architectural priorities by putting people first, ODA challenges conventional perspectives of dwelling that will, over time, influence life in our cities. Through a range of projects, ODA seeks to reconcile the conditions of vertical urban living with the qualities which benefit and nurture us as human beings: the desire for protected shelter while observing wide perspectives, the seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, and the general improvement of life through good design. This prolific firm has gained extensive experience designing and building in New York – currently more than 40 projects in New York City and throughout the U.S. – making them uniquely positioned to lead the discourse of living in urban environments. The office’s buildings celebrate life, catalyzing change in their immediate environments. ODA creates value which by its nature can be replicated again in another form. Eran Chen is the founding principal of ODA. His multi award-winning projects have been praised for their social responsibility, and innovative contributions to contemporary urban life, such as the National Library of Israel, East 44th Street, Manhattan’s ultrathin tower with open gardens; 123 Melrose, a one million square foot residential development; and Hunters Point South, NYC’s largest affordable housing project in more than forty years. He is a frequent speaker at design and development forums, as well as architecture schools around the world including Columbia University, Clemson University, Syracuse University, and Miami School of Architecture.

Fast Company unveils ODA's first foray into designing and developing: 62 Reade Street. "The six-unit loft conversion underway at 62 Reade Street in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood has the dual benefit of good bones and a good backstory. A combination of two historically landmarked 19th century Italianate structures, it was previously owned by a couple who ran a clock factory on its lower floors while living in a residence they’d created by tearing down the walls between the two buildings’ top floors. It’s the kind of building that would be irresistible to a design-centric architect as well as a marketing-savvy developer." 'POST Rotterdam gets a hall that will make your jaw drop', was the headline in the Algemeen Dagblad. The national monument is undergoing a major transformation into a vibrant public building with shops, galleries, restaurants and a unique five-star hotel on the upper floors. At the rear, a residential tower is being built that has now reached half its length and visibly peaks above the city centre. Because the building is still alive in the memory of the people of Rotterdam, the design of the 'landing' of the tower was designed with great care in close collaboration with ODA. What felt like 'whistling against the wind' during the design process has now become an appreciated design. Read the AD article here: https://lnkd.in/gieueR9m
Our Poetic design for this building in Rotterdam called “The Post” is built within the old Post Office in the center of the city is progressing nicely. Posed to bring mix uses to the city center, expand the public realm experience and bring back to life one of the only building that survived the German bombarding of WW2. Overlapping new construction and aduptive reuse the monumental project is dedicated to the people of Rotterdam, their rich history, vibrant present and imaginative future. @odanewyork @odainteriors @omnamgroup #rotterdamarchitecture #rotterdamcity #rotterdam #rotterdam_gallery #architecturedesign #architecturelovers #architecture_hunter #architecturephotos #architecture_view #architecture_lovers #odanewyork #unboxingnewyork #unboxingthecity https://lnkd.in/e-4aiy6X

We ❤️ the Look at That Building column from Bloomberg's Citylab and Kriston Capps' coverage of Book Tower is no exception! “The team had to do what I call urban archaeology,” Eran Chen said, “investigating, going through old plans, photos, walking the building, understanding the architectural language, and discovering it, step by step.” Dive into the story behind our favorite place in Detroit below.
