#SoutheastAsia, a key producer of metals like nickel and copper, is expanding its downstream processing industry, particularly in #Indonesia. By leveraging digital and analytics (DnA) technology, the sector could unlock $4-5 billion in value by improving productivity and efficiency. Indonesia's shift from exporting raw ore to building downstream processing capabilities, driven by government policies since 2019, has led to a rapid increase in smelters and processing capacity. Despite this growth, the industry hasn't fully tapped into the power of #data. DnA solutions, such as #AI-driven analytics and digital control towers, could enhance decision-making and optimize operations, potentially improving throughput by 8-10% and recovery rates by up to 3%. To achieve this, companies must undergo a “triple transformation”—aligning #business strategies, reshaping organizational culture, and upgrading technology infrastructure. This comprehensive approach could help Southeast #Asia's processing industry leapfrog toward becoming a global leader in #metals and #mining, enhancing its competitive edge in a rapidly evolving market. #Singapore has joined the ranks of the world's most transparent #realestate markets, thanks to advancements in digital services and #sustainability efforts. According to the latest survey by JLL and LaSalle Investment Management, Singapore scored 1.92, becoming the fourth "highly transparent" market in #APAC, after #Australia, #NewZealand, and #Japan, and ranked 13th globally. #HongKong, with a score of 1.97, placed 15th, just missing the "highly transparent" category. Tier-1 cities in mainland #China also showed notable improvements. The Global Real Estate Transparency Index, launched by JLL in 1999, rates markets on factors like performance, regulatory policies, market fundamentals, transaction processes, corporate governance, and sustainability. The #Philippines' Better Mining, Brighter Future campaign, spearheaded by the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines, believes that with stronger support for responsible #mining, the industry could fulfil its potential to drive economic #growth, social development, and environmental #sustainability. This was highlighted during the launch of the documentary "Living with a Brighter Future," produced as part of the campaign. Backed by mining associations, it showcases the positive potential of responsible mining practices across the country. Industry leaders noted significant contributions through Social Development and Management Programs (SDMPs) and environmental protection efforts, including PHP 31.81 billion pledged for community development and over 50 million trees planted. The sector also contributed PHP 170.1 billion to the GDP in 2022 and employed over 212,000 people as of 2023. The global race for critical minerals has intensified as nations strive to secure resources essential for the #energytransition. These minerals, including #lithium, #nickel, and #cobalt, are concentrated in a few countries, with #China dominating the refining and processing stages. This concentration has created #supplychain vulnerabilities, prompting nations like Indonesia to adopt proactive strategies. As a key player in the critical minerals sector, #Indonesia must leverage its position to enhance its role in global supply chains. It should advocate for #investment in refining capacities within resource-rich nations. A regional approach, partnering with countries like #Australia and the #Philippines, could establish a robust EV battery industry and diversify partnerships beyond China. To capitalize on its critical minerals potential, Indonesia must secure international collaborations that advance #sustainable mining, refining, and manufacturing practices. Secure supply chains will be crucial for scaling #infrastructure like wind turbines and advanced batteries. #SoutheastAsia, rich in key minerals such as nickel, tin, rare-earth elements, and bauxite, is poised to become a major supplier. However, establishing downstream processing while meeting high environmental standards presents a significant challenge. As such, the region will need collaboration with experienced countries like #Australia, #India, #Japan, the #US, #China, and #EU nations to become a critical mineral hub. The Democratic Republic of #Congo (DRC), with its abundant diamonds, #gold, copper, and cobalt, exemplifies the need for this service. The #DRC's existing resource data is outdated, relying on incomplete colonial-era records. Mr Olivier emphasizes that accurate resource mapping is crucial for governments to effectively negotiate with multinationals. OL Mining, in partnership with Spanish company Xcalibur Multiphysics Group, is tackling this issue by creating comprehensive maps of African and developing countries' resources.
