🌍 🏫 What would Thomas Malthus think if he had attended this week’s #NatureActionDialogues at Jesus College Cambridge, where he once roamed the halls? Malthus's groundbreaking work, "An Essay on the Principle of Population", can be seen as a precursor to today’s concept of planetary boundaries — a reminder of the delicate balance between nature, economy and society. 💸 The key takeaway for me from the insightful conversations this week was clear: Rather than focusing on closing the estimated $700 billion USD annual biodiversity funding gap, our focus needs to shift to transforming the entire global economy — valued at around $100 trillion USD annually — so we can thrive sustainably. 🛣️ We discussed crossroads and how, although we haven’t yet been able to halt or reverse biodiversity loss, it is never too late to turn things around. The momentum to act is real, and now is the time to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable future, we can only do this together, and it was great to see a great balance of participants UNEP-WCMC Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Proteus Partnership #NatureAction #Biodiversity #SustainableEconomy #PlanetaryBoundaries #Nature #UNEP #EnvironmentalAction #Sustainability Neville Ash Jonathan Hughes Matt Jones Sharon Brooks Rodrigo Cassola Stacey Baggaley Sebastian Bekker Mariana Martinez del Rio de la Torre Simon Webb Cate Lamb Katy Baker Connie Holmes David Obura Paula Harrison Abyd Karmali OBE Jo Swinson Grant Rudgley Susanne Schmitt Rhona Turnbull Kimberley Chan Melis Ford Sam Burke Nadine McCormick Sylvaine Rols Frederik Buchholz Thomas Maddox Helen Avery Haki Pamuk Caroline Van Leenders Sarah Nelson Johanna Gloel, PhD Lenka Moore Tom McKenna Edward Ellis Edward Pollard Frank Hawkins
