Our Vision is Sound - Multibeam Echosounder for underwater mapping.

About us

R2Sonic was founded in February 2006 by three veteran underwater acoustical engineers; Jens R. Steenstrup, Mark Chun and Kirk Hobart; with the mission to utilize their experience to bring high quality, truly innovative underwater acoustic products at compelling value and quality to the private and public sectors with a focus on customer needs. The SONIC Series of multibeam echosounders represents that innovative spirit with unique technology that delivers a superior performance and flexibility- a paradigm shift in multibeam technology. The application of innovation and technology has dramatically reduced the system size, weight and complexity while doubling performance and improving power efficiency - bringing compelling value to the customer.

Uncrewed vessels are rapidly gaining popularity for hydrographic surveys, especially when fitted with a #Sonic-V Series MBES system for unbeatable performance 😉 Seen here is the premium Sonic #2026-V model, with a tilted mount on a #USV, the ideal solution for detailed inspection of vertical structures right up close to the water surface. (le français suit) What a powerful hydrographic start for Arpentage PCB of Sainte-Marie (QC)! Just a few short days after taking ownership of their brand new R2Sonic 2020-V Plus last August, the crew was already on the water with multibeam expert, Mike Brissette, for field testing and training. Arpentage PCB was awarded three survey contracts in the Rimouski (QC) area, totalling approximately 30 square kilometres of shallow (0m-15m) coastal waters. In addition to their new system, they also equipped a second boat crew with a second 2020-V Plus to double their performance. Both crews worked the next 30 days and several nights to cover the areas, and fortunately, only faced a few days of bad weather where they concentrated on data processing. As if that was not a big enough undertaking, a week or two into the job, one of the crews took a day off to drive up to Montreal to assist one of Boatmen Montreal's clients locate a lost boat anchor that urgently needed to be recovered. For this operation, Arpentage PCB made use of R2Sonic’s Ultra High Frequency (UHR) 700kHz technical mode feature. With a bit of advice from veteran expert Mike Brissette (R2Sonic), the anchor location was identified and confirmed almost immediately. Congratulations to Arpentage PCB! R2Sonic, SBG Systems, HYPACK, a Xylem Brand, AML Oceanographic Ltd., Hydrospatial Movement Club & Community

Barnacle build up in many environments can be severe, blocking the active sensor components and affecting your survey performance. Take advantage of our unique non-ablative, non-toxic, #antifouling #coating protection for all Sonic and Sonic-V Series Wideband Multibeam Systems. Unlike traditional antifouling primers that may be toxic and degrade over time, it's designed to last the full life of the sensor, without affecting system performance. Value priced and well worth the effort.
