About us
Our mission is to save 100 million lives from cardiovascular disease and to prevent epidemics. Resolve to Save Lives helps governments and civil society implement scalable, proven strategies to prevent millions of deaths from cardiovascular disease and epidemics. We focus on accelerating action in low- and middle-income countries through speed, simplicity, and scale. In our first four years, we have worked with countries to help protect millions of people from exposure to artificial trans fat, we've partnered with countries that are treating more than 2 million patients for high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), and have supported more than 20 countries in Africa to improve epidemic preparedness and response.

Nutrition International, in collaboration with the World Health Organization- Country Office for #India, Resolve To Save Lives, and the Iodine Global Network, recently hosted a consultative meeting in #NewDelhi. This gathering brought together policymakers, subject matter experts, and practitioners to tackle the dual challenge of reducing salt intake while ensuring adequate iodine nutrition for India's population. Prominent participants included Dr. Shikha Vardhan, Assistant Director General, National Program for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases, Government of India and Dr. Alka Rao, Advisor (Regulations, Science & Standards) at the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The consultation underscored the need for comprehensive data collection systems to accurately monitor sodium and iodine intake across diverse population groups and emphasized the importance of coordinated policy development, where government agencies, health organizations, academic institutions, and industry collaborate closely to align regulatory frameworks and synchronize efforts. The recommendations will form part of a national-level policy paper being developed by Nutrition International along with our partner organizations. #PublicHealth #SaltReduction #IodineNutrition #India #Nutrition

Our India team participated in a panel discussion on ‘Unhealthy Diets and Cardiovascular Disease’ at the CARDIOBASE 2024 event, moderated by Dr. A. Murugunathan – an eminent physician and public health expert. The team highlighted our efforts to promote #cardiovascularhealth both globally and in #India, focusing on the urgent need for salt reduction, trans fat elimination, and the adoption of healthier oils. The event was a great opportunity to engage with senior cardiologists, nephrologists, and clinicians, underscoring the critical role physicians play in advancing public health.

At around 10AM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, crowds were starting to gather at Connaught Hospital, the largest government hospital in #SierraLeone. Dozens of people were reporting unusual symptoms like vomiting, dizziness and weakness. By 2PM that afternoon, a total of 104 residents had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment, raising alarms that the capital city of Freetown was in the middle of a major outbreak of food poisoning. By paying attention to early signals through event-based surveillance, Sierra Leone's Ministry of Health and Sanitation brought this outbreak to an end swiftly and effectively. Read how they did it in our latest feature. Thank you to our partners including the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC Foundation and Jhpiego Sierra Leone for your contributions to advancing event-based surveillance capacities in Sierra Leone and other countries across the region.

Countries around the world, including in South East Asia, are adopting the 7-1-7 target for fast outbreak detection and response. To keep people safe from emerging disease threats, we must continuously work to improve preparedness and strengthen health security—and that's what the 7-1-7 Alliance, with support from our team and partners, is doing.
IANPHI, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Resolve To Save Lives' 7-1-7 Alliance launched the "7-1-7 Approach Regional Training for South East Asia" this week in #Bangkok, #Thailand with representatives from: #Australia, #Brunei, #Darussalam, #Cambodia, #Indonesia, #Laos, #Malaysia, #Philippines, #Thailand, #TimorLeste, #Vietnam.

Earlier this year, Kano became the first state in #Nigeria to adopt comprehensive subnational health security legislation that will better protect its people from the threat of infectious disease outbreaks. As Emem Udoh of our team said, “The Kano Health Security Bill is a milestone for both the state and Nigeria. It’s a huge step forward for protecting everyday citizens, and something we’re working to emulate across other states in Nigeria.” The passage of Kano's Health Security Bill was made possible through our partnership with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Kano State government, Global Health Advocacy Incubator, and other colleagues. We're extremely grateful for their commitment in bringing this bill to fruition. Read all about what's in the bill, and the efforts that led to this public health victory, in our latest feature story.
