20 years ago this week was the start of the Superlift! The new Cardinals Stadium Roof “Superlift” entailed the raising of a pre-assembled long span structural steel roof structure approximately 120’ into the air over the course of 3 days using strand jacks. The roof lift assembly was comprised of (2) 700’ long x 87’ deep Brunel Trusses that were separated by approximately 280’ of fixed roof trusses and operable roof trusses framing between them. The weight of this hoisted roof assembly tipped the scales at a whopping 11.2 million pounds! We recently set the last piece of steel at the UC San Diego Triton Center, a centralized gathering place for essential student programs and services. Slated to open in 2026, the 4- building, 400,000 square foot structures feature 1,504 tons of structural steel, procured in accordance with the Buy Clean California Act (BCCA) and fabricated and erected by Schuff Steel. As an American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Sustainability Partner, and member of AISC’s Sustainability Committee, Schuff understands the role that structural steel plays in minimizing environmental impacts. We support our clients with purchasing expertise, including identifying and meeting #sustainability standards for any size project, as well as offering valuable input to the Design Team during design assist phase, which can help lower overall steel tonnage required on a given project. Schuff Steel is proud to see our recently completed 200 Park project—the first implementation of SpeedCore in California—featured in this month’s issue of Modern Steel Construction as part of an article about the American Institute of Steel Construction’s ‘Need for Speed’ initiative. Nearly five years ago, the AISC launched this ambitious initiative with the aim of revolutionizing the timeline for designing, fabricating, and erecting steel structures. Schuff has been honored to support these efforts in many ways, including contributing ongoing research, partnering with the FastFloor Advisory Panel, and more. We look forward to continued innovation and partnerships to advance the future of structural steel! https://lnkd.in/e4-E_qhq
