We're building the health workforce of the future to transform health systems and save lives.
About us
Seed believes in a future in which every country has a robust health workforce that is able to meet the health needs of its population. Good health is fundamental to not only survive, but to thrive. When people have access to quality health care, it is not just their health that improves; they are better able to contribute to stronger economies, greater personal and national security, and sustained prosperity. Seed educates a rising generation of health professionals and health educators, bolstering the pipeline of healthcare providers who have local knowledge and deep ties to the region. By teaching local health professionals, entire communities and countries can benefit from the “ripple effect” created when more skilled clinicians are better prepared to care for the population and serve as educators themselves for and alongside their local peers. These skilled professionals also become leaders in their health system, advocating for better health in a positive feedback loop. Seed is uniquely focused on placing skilled and qualified Educators at partner institutions for a minimum of one academic year as well as supporting educators and partner institutions through a diverse and complementary package of services aimed at advancing health professional education in the classroom and clinical setting. The net result is better care and better health for the population.

Thrilled to see the climate and health agenda featuring prominently at G20 Brasil 2024 with the G20 Declaration on Climate Change, Health, Equity, and One Health endorsed by all the G20 economies. This is a very critical step towards protecting our future economic, individual, national and global security. I applaud G20 Brazil for prioritizing climate and health, and it is encouraging to see that the climate and health crisis is being brought further into mainstream political discussions. Climate and health must remain a priority—whether at the next COP, the G20, or in other spaces like the Munich Security Conference. Ultimately, though, we need more than talk. Action—not words—will prevent rising temperatures and save lives. It is also very poignant to see the attention and recognition given to the health workforce in the G20 Declaration on Climate Change. It commits to: 🩺 Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and providing professionals with the necessary knowledge and tools to adapt their practices. 🥼 Work to protect the health workforce and patients from the adverse effects of climate change, recognizing that their roles place them in situations very susceptible to climate change-related risks. 🌍 Incorporate climate change-related health information into pre-service and in-service training, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and equip professionals with the knowledge and tools to adapt their practices. The G20 Health Ministers Rio Declaration also underscores the critical role of a well-trained, skilled, and strong health workforce as we work towards UHC, pandemic-preparedness and health equity. The recent momentum in the climate and health dialogue and the acknowledgment of the health workforce’s pivotal role must continue! https://lnkd.in/eGwcmWmA Seed Global Health Maria Neira Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus World Health Organization Helen Clark Nísia Trindade Lima Aaron Motsoaledi Ministero della Salute Fahad AlJalajel Geneviève Darrieussecq Budi Sadikin Mark Butler Estelle Willie, MPH Gregory Kuzmak Naveen Rao The Rockefeller Foundation Health Care Without Harm Josh Karliner Arthur Wyns Monique Vledder Tamer Rabie COP29 Azerbaijan COP28 UAE COP27 - UN Climate Change Conference COP26 - UN Climate Change Conference

Investing in clean energy is a direct investment in people’s health, lives, and livelihoods. Instead of continuing to harm the health of billions across the globe, we must redirect the trillions of dollars still being spent on fossil fuels toward a fair and just transition to clean energy. The newly published 2024 The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change indicator report highlights that fossil fuel subsidies reached a record high of $1.4 trillion in 2022—dwarfing any commitments for climate action or health. The report also shows that 10 out of the 15 indicators monitoring climate-related health hazards, exposures, and impacts have now reached concerning new records - https://lnkd.in/eSBFFzs6 While the report reveals alarming increases in emissions, fossil fuel funding, and health harms, there are still positive developments: 🔹 A healthy future is still within reach if leaders, politicians, the private sector, and individuals engage and act now. 🔹 The financial resources for a clean energy transition are available but need to be redirected from fossil fuel subsidies to a just transition. 🔹 Deaths from fossil fuel-derived air pollution fell by almost 7% in 2021, with 59% of this decline due to efforts to reduce coal pollution. 🔹 The share of electricity generated by clean modern renewables reached 10.5% in 2021 - almost double the 5.5% in 2016. 🔹 Global investment in clean energy grew by 10% in 2023. 🔹 There is growing engagement from individuals, corporations, scientists, and international organizations in climate change and health. 🔹 Health systems conducting Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessments (VAAs) increased from 11 in 2022 to 50 in 2023. Financial transition will take center stage at the upcoming COP29 Azerbaijan, and we must seize this opportunity to transform financial systems and shift resources away from the fossil-fuel economy towards a zero-emissions future. Health must also be central to climate commitments in the NDCs being renewed in February 2025. We must work harder and faster to protect our well-being, reduce health inequities, and maximize health gains, especially for countries and communities that need it most. Working together to make a real difference! Our teams in Zambia and Malawi convened a three-day meeting to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between the family medicine programs at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi and The University Of Zambia (UNZA). Faculty members from both institutions and Seed staff discussed key areas such as teaching methodology, student support, faculty development, and the role of family medicine in building a climate-resilient health workforce. Participants also visited community hospitals in Lusaka to observe the training of family medicine doctors and assess the impact of our collaboration on healthcare delivery. https://lnkd.in/eAKxWuMq Bassim Birkland Anda Nindi
