SELCO provides high-quality electric, cable, telephone, and internet services to residential and commercial customers within the Town of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
🚗🔋 On the morning of July 9th, we dedicated our new EV charging station at Dean Park to Ralph Iaccarino, SELCO's recently retired Director of Engineering & Operations! It’s only fitting that we honor Ralph's passion for electric vehicles by placing a charging station in the spot where he always envisioned it.
Ralph’s enthusiasm for sustainable energy has been an inspiration to us all. To commemorate his remarkable career, we also presented him with a unique retirement gift: an electric meter lamp featuring a meter from 1920. ⚡️💡
Thank you, Ralph, for your unwavering passion, commitment and innovative spirit. We encourage all drivers to utilize the new EV charging station at Dean Park!

🎡👺🤡This is something we definitely don't see every day!
Yesterday at 4:30 PM, a call came in about a carnival truck hitting utility wires. SELCO crews were on the scene by 4:45 PM, just 15 minutes after the call! 🏃♂️💨
Upon arrival, SELCO determined the wire belonged to Verizon, meaning our crews couldn’t touch it. Instead, we monitored the situation until Verizon arrived.
Shoutout to our on-call linemen who juggled (no pun 🤡 intended) multiple other calls while monitoring the situation and awaiting Verizon's arrival.

🐑 🌞 The sheep are back at our solar array at the Wheelabrator landfill!
This week, we welcomed the group of Khatadin sheep back to our solar array at Wheelebrator Landfill in Shrewsbury! These hard-working sheep will take care of the vegetation across 11.5 acres, ensuring our 10,802 solar panels remain efficient and environmentally friendly.
Did you know...
-The cost of six months of grazing equals the cost of just one mowing with fossil fuels.
-Sheep naturally fertilize the soil, promoting deeper root systems and better moisture retention. Their grazing helps stabilize the soil, enhance beneficial microbes, and even improve power generation! They will provide approximately 50,000 lbs of natural, clean fertilizer back into the soil.
-Our solar array generates 3MW of power, enough to supply 300 homes annually.
-By using sheep instead of gas-powered weedwhackers, we significantly reduce carbon emissions. One hour of weedwhacking equals driving a car 1,100 miles! 🚗
Solar Shepherd ensures the sheep are well cared for, regularly checking their water supply, safety, and moving them to fresh grazing spots.
We're proud to implement this sustainable practice, contributing to a greener future. Learn more about our partners at Solar Shepherd, who manage solar sites with sheep across Massachusetts: https://lnkd.in/eE9W7QMT
Join us in celebrating this eco-friendly initiative and the vital role these sheep play in maintaining our solar farm! Be sure to come visit the sheep and learn more from the Solar Shepard Team at our SELCO Community Open House on June 28th! https://lnkd.in/e9guZhBK#SustainableEnergy#EcoFriendly#SolarSheep#GreenEnergy#WhelebratorLandfill#SolarPower#RenewableEnergy#CommunityPowered

🏆 ⚡ Kudos to Team SELCO! Lineworkers Jeff Proctor, Jon Bishop, and Justin Vandal showcased their incredible skills at the Northeast Public Power Association (NEPPA) Rodeo in Hull, MA this week! 🎉
The rodeo is an exciting competition where lineworkers tackle challenging tasks like climbing poles and completing timed assignments such as transformer changeouts and obstacle courses.
Teams from Municipal Light Plants and COOPs across New England gathered to compete, and Team SELCO made a remarkable debut, scoring a perfect 💯 in three out of six events!
This was SELCO's first time competing in the event, and our team represented us with flying colors.
Not only did they demonstrate their expertise, but they also gained valuable new skills. We couldn't be prouder of Team SELCO for their outstanding performance against the best of the best in New England linework!
NEPPA’s Annual Lineworkers Rodeo isn't just about competition—it's also about promoting safety, enhancing skills, fostering teamwork, and providing a deeper understanding of utility work for attendees.
Congratulations to Jeff, Jon, & Justin, for their achievements at the NEPPAS Rodeo! 🎊
