TerraCycle is Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by recycling the unrecyclable and reducing disposability at its source.

About us

TerraCycle is Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by developing solutions to recycle the unrecyclable—items that aren’t typically curbside recyclable like cosmetics, candy wrappers, chewing gum, and even cigarette butts. We work with environmentally-conscious startups and some of the world’s biggest brands to recycle their products into raw material, which is then sold to manufacturing companies. Those manufacturers then use the materials to make new products like outdoor furniture and decking, plastic shipping pallets, tubes for construction applications, playground surface covers, and more. We’ve even recycled ocean plastic into shampoo bottles and toothpaste tubes into playgrounds! We’re continuously pioneering new and innovative recycling, reuse, and recycled content solutions for your trash. Join us in Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by visiting terracycle.com.

Snack wrappers typically aren’t accepted by local recycling services because they’re hard to recycle. They’re often made of layers of different materials (like plastic and aluminum), and they’re very lightweight, so special equipment and processes are needed to recycle them. At TerraCycle, we’ve developed a specialized process to recycle snack packaging into products like outdoor furniture, shipping pallets, piping, and more. Watch to learn more about our snack wrapper recycling process from TerraCycle’s recycling operations expert Beary Thazhathu. We are honored that we were recently selected as one of five finalists for the "Environmental Stewardship" category of the .ORG Impact Awards, from more than 1,700 applicants! The .ORG Impact Awards, an Public Interest Registry initiative, recognize the profound impact happening in communities across the globe. Although we did not win the award, it was an immense honor to be recognized as a global leader in reducing the flow of plastic waste from rivers and canals before it can reach the ocean. "The judges had a very difficult job determining a winner amongst so many great causes. Though we are a small organization, we have worked hard to be the most impactful. Our recognition was the result of thousands of people, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and my staff that made this honor possible." - James Scott, Executive Director of the TerraCycle Foundation We will continue to positively impact people, communities, and the environment by targeting waste upstream to collect it before it reaches the ocean and engaging with local communities to support education on recycling.
