Listen to Jenee Henry Wood on the Remake Education podcast as she talks about changing our collective perceptions of education from schooling to learning. How we need to move beyond the idea of a physical-based building where things are happening to an ecosystem where people are working together to create learning experiences for kids and for those who serve them. https://lnkd.in/eFDNyWRT

About us
Our Vision All young people learn in ways that enable them to thrive in and transform the world. Our Mission Transcend supports communities to create and spread extraordinary, equitable learning environments. What We Believe The world is changing, as are the needs of learners. It’s more complex, more interconnected, more technological. To thrive, our children need more than academic skills – they need leadership, self‐awareness, creativity, empathy, collaboration, entrepreneurship, critical consciousness, and more. All children deserve this opportunity. The time is now for innovation. The traditional design of K‐12 public schools has served important purposes over time. However, the world’s changing conditions and students’ evolving needs call for wholly new conceptions of what we call “school.” Our Role Transcend, founded by Jeff Wetzler and Aylon Samouha, plays a key partnership role to fuel and grow R&D capacity. Given day‐to‐day demands of school, visionary educators are often held back in the innovation they can pursue. We believe they will make the best progress when afforded the time, capacity, and support to not only imagine and design but also build, prototype, assess, iterate upon, codify, and ultimately replicate breakthrough new models. Through partnering with school operators, Transcend aims to play a vital role in affording visionary educators – and the sector more broadly – the deep R&D capacity needed to accelerate breakthroughs in the creation and spread of new “school” models. Our Approach We enlist school operator partners (district, charter, and other) who have great potential for breakthrough innovation. We assemble world‐class R&D talent (both individuals and organizations), with expertise in a range of areas. We partner with school operators to provide the external R&D capacity that is often much needed, while also helping to grow, unleash, and orchestrate the capacity that already exists within leadership, staff, students, and community.

Clear Creek School District, nestled in Colorado's mountains, faced a challenge: disengaged students yearning for a more relevant learning experience. Their solution? Rethinking education through project-based learning! Students are tackling real-world issues, like their own school's undrinkable water, and developing critical skills in the process. Project-based learning connects academics to community needs, prepares students for future careers, and empowers students to take charge of their learning. The early years are crucial for developing foundational skills, but chronic absenteeism is rampant in kindergarten classrooms across the country. In California, more than 1 in 3 kindergarteners miss so much school they are deemed chronically absent. The reasons are complex. Parents struggle to determine if a child is too sick to attend. Lingering pandemic guidance to keep ill children home compounds the issue, even as schools work to improve attendance. The good news? Schools are taking action. See one example in this report from NPR. https://lnkd.in/gFD8yAy2

The EDSAFE AI Alliance developed a framework to ensure that AI innovations in education were aligned and developed with fundamental principles to promote safety, accountability, fairness and transparency, and efficacy in use (aka the SAFE Framework) Read the origin story https://lnkd.in/grX5FdpQ Built in 2001 and 2002, the SAFE framework responds to the urgent demand for coherent frameworks and guidance that can streamline the policy development and technology implementation processes, align diverse perspectives, and put in place an approach to address immediate and long-term concerns of these technologies. We’re honored to be on the Steering Committee.
