💡 A new research article, co-authored by Vital’s Carlie Congdon, highlights the effectiveness of tying a financial incentive to on-time birth registration. In Fiji, the rate of on-time birth registration was 58% prior to the introduction of a financial incentive. After the financial incentive was implemented, on-time birth registration rose to 93% and increased in particular among the iTaukei ethnic group, young mothers, and single mothers. We have the tools to register every birth. Financial incentives can play a key role in making sure every person is registered – and therefore can access the human rights afforded to them by the state. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gUm_vJ9K This article was a collaboration between UNSW, Fiji Civil Registry, Fiji Bureau of Statistics, Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services, United Nations ESCAP, and Vital Strategies with support from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative. #CRVS #DataforHealth

Led by Vanderbilt Health faculty, with collaboration from CDC Foundation, and support from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative, teams sharpened their technical skills and honed their models to present to decision-makers in their countries. #Data4Health #DataToPolicy

We’re pleased to share that we’ve signed a new partnership agreement with UNICEF to support governments in achieving universal birth and death registration. The new agreement builds on the existing collaboration between Vital Strategies and UNICEF and will contribute to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals— in particular, Target 16.9: “By 2030, provide legal identity for all, including birth registration.” Sheema Sen Gupta, director of Child Protection, UNICEF and Adam Karpati, Senior Vice President of Public Health Programs, Vital Strategies celebrated the renewed agreement at the Vital Strategies office in New York. In parallel with this agreement, we are continuing our civil registration and vital statistics improvement work through our involvement in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative.

Our new President and CEO Mary-Ann Etiebet, MD, MBA attended the WomenLift Health & Global Health 50/50 Partner Reception Event tonight. We are proud to join partners in our commitment to make progress towards #GenderEquity in the #GlobalHealth sector and are excited for the work to come. We believe that equity is the cornerstone of resilient and effective public health systems. As a long-standing equity advocate, Mary-Ann’s wisdom and experience in gender equity will be a key part of her vision for Vital Strategies’ work.
It was so uplifting to spend an evening at the WomenLift Health & Global Health 50/50 Partner Reception with so many inspiring women leaders and #globalhealth partners committed to #genderequity. I’m so proud to be part of this community, serving as a #mentor to so many amazing women, and continuing to push for progress with advocates worldwide. Gender equity is an important part of my lifelong commitment to equity and my vision for our work at Vital Strategies. I can’t wait to work with the team to ensure that we #LeaveNoOneBehind - both inside and outside our organization!

Last week, 42 emerging health leaders across Papua New Guinea convened for a multi-day Data Centered Leadership (DCL) workshop to strengthen their data use skills and bring improved practices back into the organizational units they manage. When technical staff and policymakers receive strong support, they can use data to its full potential to improve the lives of their constituents. The DCL workshop, which was hosted in collaboration with the Health Services Sector Development Program, the University of Papua New Guinea, and the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative, culminated in the production of individual data use improvement project plans, which will be implemented over the next 3 months. #Data4Health #DCL
