🇳🇴 #Norway's #government coalition has split over a dispute over the implementation of #EU energy laws - but lack of cooperation with Europe could impact #Norwegian #seafood sector, warns #industry association 🗣️ Geir Ove Ystmark, the CEO of Norwegian seafood federation Sjømat Norge, has warned that close cooperation with the #EuropeanUnion is essential to ensure continued #marketaccess for #NorwegianSeafood. 📊 The EU is Norway's largest #exportmarket, with seafood the second largest category after energy. The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance calls to stop what it described as "self-inflicted damage to #Canada's aquaculture sector" caused by the Trudeau Government's policies and embark on a positive path to strength through #sustainable #growth. 🇨🇦🌊🐟❗ 🎯 Key highlights of Statistics Canada | Statistique Canada about #aquaculture #production and #trade data for 2023: 🔹 #Volume down: 145,985 tonnes in 2023, 27% less than the peak production level reached in 2016 (200,804 tonnes). 🔹 #Value down: CAD 1.26 billion (EUR 836 million / USD 868.9 million), a 25.3% drop in real terms from its peak value of CAD 1.69 billion (EUR 1.12 billion / USD 1.16 billion) in 2018. 🔹 #Exports fell: CAD 882.8 million (EUR 586.2 million / USD 609.2 million), a 24.5% decrease from the peak export value of CAD 1.17 billion (EUR 776.7 million / USD 807.2 million) in 2019. 🗣️ "Especially in the face of #US #tariffs that would, if implemented, brutalize coastal communities, it is time to stop all damaging actions and policies that undermine the strength and vitality of our sector," said #CAIA President and CEO, Tim Kennedy. 🔬 The Universidad Austral de Chile has presented the study 'In vitro Evaluation of Pretreated and Untreated Brewer's Bagasse Flour Enzymatically, with Potential Application in Functional Fish Diets' to improve farmed salmonids #health. 🥼 Researchers have developed a pretreatment to analyze the possible #toxic, pro-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of brewer's bagasse flour when used as a supplement in #salmonid #fish #diets. 👩⚕️ Dr. María Cristina Ravanal, a faculty member at the Institute of Science and Technology of Food: "We have studied how to extract bioactive #compounds from brewer's bagasse. This allowed us to efficiently obtain phenolic acids and prebiotics." 💡 In conclusion, Ravanal explains that the extract stimulates the immune response and modulates genes related to oxidative #stress, while also showing #antimicrobial effects against Piscirickettsia salmonis, a significant #pathogen in #aquaculture. https://lnkd.in/de2TMV9t

In its first round, $62 million was raised in 2021.
