Passionate about transforming attitudes toward aging.
About us
We don’t buy into the stigma of ageism. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a life of continued growth, experience, and meaning — and to pursue joy, regardless of physical, social, or economic circumstances. The experience of aging is shaped by each person — as they see it, define it, and experience it. To demonstrate our commitment to this belief, we have taken up the torch to be the most dynamic and inclusive champion to revolutionize the experience of aging. We serve residents of independent and assisted living, rehabilitation, and memory support. We also offer clients services including home care, adult day, home-delivered meals, and hospice. As a nonprofit organization guided by Christian compassion, we were founded more than 75 years ago as a place for aging Methodist ministers and their spouses to call home. Today, our services are delivered by 1,300 part- and full-time passionate team members throughout the state with a focus on creating opportunities to pursue joy!

Day 1 of WesleyLife Week - our organizational birthday - revolved around connection, camaraderie, and well-being. Team members at our headquarters in Johnston gathered together for a delicious breakfast prepared by our Culture Club, then went for a half-mile walk … with some music trivia and prizes mixed in. Yes, WesleyLife Week is fun - but it’s also about enhancing our organizational culture and showing our deep appreciation for one another and those we serve. Stay tuned throughout the week as we continue to celebrate turning 77! #healthandwellbeing #wesleylifeweek Allison Pendroy Ward Phillips Krista Van Hooser-Perin, Ph.D Paris Sandoval

What a way to kick off WesleyLife Week - by welcoming new team members! At our organizational headquarters in Johnston this morning, we said hello to Maggie Carlson, left, our new accounting and finance intern, and Mallory Wilson, director of people and culture. We’re so glad to have them with us! #healthandwellbeing #welcome

It's WesleyLife's birthday! We're 77 years old today. It all started in 1947 with a goal of providing care for “old folks” (that’s how the first Wesley Acres sign read — really!). Since then, we’ve grown to an organization that serves nearly 10,000 people a year with a variety of services designed to enhance health and well-being and create opportunities to pursue joy. Stay tuned this week as we celebrate our annual WesleyLife Week, filled with organization-wide education, connection, recognition, and appreciation. #healthandwellbeing #history #anniversary #birthday

It’s never too early to demonstrate compassion! Recently, Evan, 4, son of WesleyLife Vice President of Philanthropy Sophia S. Ahmad, MBA MM, began saving a portion of his allowance to donate to WesleyLife Meals on Wheels. Not only did he proudly present his contribution to the Meals on Wheels team, but he joined his mother in delivering meals to older adults and military veterans in the Des Moines Metro. Judging from the smiles, we’re sure our clients enjoyed his visit as much as he did. Thank you, Evan, for your generosity! #healthandwellbeing #mealsonwheels #philanthropy #compassion

A sincere and heartfelt “thank you” to our friends at Casey's. On behalf of our Meals on Wheels clients, we value and appreciate this difference-making alliance!
We are so excited to share our support of WesleyLife Meals on Wheels. This new partnership will bring over 16,000 meals to veterans and older adults, and Casey's will fuel the Meals on Wheels fleet of vehicles that gets these meals out into the community. This hard-working fleet transports more than 250,000 home-delivered meals a year, tallying more than 230,000 miles in 2023 - that's a lot of miles and Casey's makes it easy to fuel up along the way. Today, our Casey's team members took the wheel and distributed meals, cards, flags and some July 4th cheer during meal deliveries. Thank you to the WesleyLife team for the very important work they do, and to our Casey’s team for volunteering to kickoff this partnership! #communityimpact #communityengagement #volunteering #foodinsecurity

Congratulations to the latest graduating classes of the WesleyLife Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program — an immersive experience committed to clinical excellence so that WesleyLife may provide the highest-quality services to those who place their trust in us. The students pictured completed the state-approved training program at two of our Communities for Healthy Living — Hearthstone-A Ministry of WesleyLife in Pella, Iowa, and Edgewater-A WesleyLife Active Life Community in West Des Moines, Iowa — and are preparing to take their CNA exams. WesleyLife Clinical Staff Educator Ann Head, MSN, RN, who conceived and leads the program, addressed both graduation ceremonies, with WesleyLife leaders also congratulating the graduates and reminding them that as caregivers, they didn’t choose this work; the work chose them. Ann says she's pleased with the dedication and outcomes demonstrated by both groups of students. “I am excited to see what they do next and am very glad they belong to the WesleyLife family!” she said. The WesleyLife CNA Training Program is open to all, and a 70% tuition discount is available for WesleyLife team members. To learn more or enroll, contact Jessica via email at Careers@WesleyLife.org or by phone at (515) 322-2633. #CNA #nursingassistant #clinicalexcellence
