WAPA’s power grid resiliency is on tap for this week’s #PhotogenicFriday … On July 23, flooding throughout southeast South Dakota forced crews from WAPA’s Upper Great Plains region to go on alert, ensuring potential power disruptions were addressed and responded to. Fortunately, the lines remained energized throughout the event, but emergency crews continue to monitor the situation. Marc Kress of WAPA’s UGP region captured these images of the flooding and debris left over on one of our Sioux City-Split Rock 345-kV towers. For showing the intensity of Mother Nature, and the resiliency of our power grid systems, Marc’s images earn a Photogenic Friday label. #PhotogenicFridays #Electric #Infrastructure #Hydropower #CleanEnergy

In this week’s #PhotogenicFriday post, WAPA goes up, up, anD UP! Earlier this week, Jeff Miller, the construction manager for WAPA’s Sierra Nevada region, snapped this shot of line crews setting steel structures outside Beale Air Force Base in northern #California. The placement of the double-circuit 230-kV transmission lines on July 16 will eventually feed power to the air force base after the completion of the Beale Interconnection project slated for next year after energization. #PhotogenicFridays #Electric #Infrastructure #Hydropower #CleanEnergy

With a blistering, hot weekend expected throughout much of the West … it’s only fitting we witness the beauty of the desert for this week’s #PhotogenicFriday … This week’s image captures some of the beautiful, serpentine shapes of sandstone found adjacent to the Glen Canyon Switchyard Tower and Dam. The image, captured by former High Voltage Electrician Randy Hammit in 2017, shows the splendor of the eroded rock formations with Glen Canyon Dam, which is found at the edge of Lake Powell in northern #Arizona. Glen Canyon Dam has an installed capacity of 1,320 megawatts. WAPA TIP: BEAT THE HEAT! Make sure to have a plan in hot weather to stay safe and hydrated! #PhotogenicFridays #Electric #Infrastructure #Hydropower #CleanEnergy
