At Yugo, we’re on a mission to better the planet which is why we take pride in ensuring our spaces meet the highest possible sustainability standards. In the US, we’re delighted to report that 50% of Yugo spaces have now achieved Energy Star certification and 40% of our spaces have been awarded Fitwel certification. These certificates reflect our commitment to reducing energy consumption and improving students’ mental and physical wellbeing through innovative designs and Yugo’s unique Live Your Best Life program. This provides a holistic living experience for our students, offering training and events focused on sustainability, professional development and community, and consistently delivering activities across our 43 American sites to over 1,200 students. To date – alongside our sister business GSA - Global Student Accommodation - our sustainability projects in the US have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by an impressive 5,818 Metric Tons of CO2e, the equivalent of burning 13,400 barrels of oil a year. Yugo to open a new 610 bed property near Barcelona, with access to three popular universities! We’re delighted to announce that construction is underway for a new Yugo space offering 610 beds, in the town of Cerdanyola del Vallés near one of the world’s most creative and compelling cities, Barcelona. This new space will be the only private student accommodation within walking distance of the UAB Bellaterra Campus, the third ranked university in Spain, offering degrees in medicine, law, engineering and business. It’s also close to further university campuses such as Esade and Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. The new space, due to open in the autumn will offer: ✅ 610 rooms with ensuite bathrooms ✅ Study and co-working rooms ✅ Gym, cinema, games room ✅ Swimming pool ✅ Restaurant service The building specifications include a BREEAM score, a globally recognised certification that evaluates energy efficiency, water use and waste management. A special thanks to Ana Núñez-García, Yugo Business Development Associate, who has worked super hard to make this happen. Yugoers from across the company recently came together in Oxford, UK, for a celebratory evening at Flight Club! They enjoyed a night of competitive social darts, marking the grand finale of 2024 and an exciting beginning of 2025. A huge congratulations to Sunjaya Phillips, one of our incredible student scholars, for claiming victory in the competition! 🏆 Events like these remind us of the power of connection, not just to celebrate our successes but to recharge and gear up for the opportunities ahead. Yugo shared a warm welcome with the Malaysian High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland and the Malaysia Director of Education for the UK and Europe, who recently visited two of our operational spaces: CRM Grand Felda and CRM Felda House. Accompanied by Robin Moorcroft, SVP Commercial at Yugo and supporting teams, they toured both properties in Wembley Park, London and explored opportunities for further Malaysian investment into UK PBSA.  The buildings are managed on behalf of Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) and represent the first Malaysian investment into UK student housing.    They are also part of Yugo’s global management strategy for third-party clients, enabling property owners and investors to leverage our extensive experience in student living and achieve successful investments in new markets. In London alone, Yugo now manages nearly 4,500 beds for a range of institutional clients. We’re proud to deliver world-class student living experiences alongside strong operational performance! This week, Kasper Ravn Wigen, Yugo’s Global Marketing Director, shared his important insights about the motivations which drive student housing decisions with PBSA News. Based on Yugo’s report, PBSA – Catering to a Gen Z World, which polled 1,000 students across the UK and USA, data revealed shared anxieties. Over half (56%) of UK students experience stress about choosing where to live, while in the US, that number rises to 64%. Here at Yugo, we believe making the right room choice matters and according to our research students satisfied with their accommodation are 10 times more likely to enjoy their university experience.
