For those of you looking to hire security professionals and think that they must have experience in your specific industry: You’re wrong. Can you imagine if Uber only hired taxi drivers? Sounds pretty stupid right? Are you looking in the mirror yet? I am a perfect example. Enterprise, Federal Goverment, DoD, Big 4 consulting, FinTech, Banking, Software development companies, Cloud, Hosting, MSP providers, Security product and SaaS, Higher Ed. Fortune 50 to mom and pop… I did it in Silicon Valley, in silicon hills, and in DC. I’ve done it remote, and underground. My customers and security teams were world wide and next door. I’ve done it all and I’ve done it everywhere, your company probably has not. When someone brings different experience - they bring different perspective and lessons. Hire aptitude and attitude. Security folk’s whole existence is figuring things out, quickly. As a candidate if you hear “you need fintech, you need medical, you need retail,” count your blessings, it’s a litmus test for companies that are boxed into their own world.
