The African Union's efforts through the CAADP Strategy and Action Plan are a pivotal step in reshaping the future of Africa's agrifood systems. The commitment to boosting food production and expanding value addition within a 10-year framework holds immense potential for long-term sustainability and self-reliance. As highlighted during the recent summit in Kampala, the adoption of the 2026-2035 CAADP Strategy and the Kampala Declaration serves as a bold and transformative vision for Africa’s agricultural future. Africa has the natural resources, the potential, and the entrepreneurial spirit to feed itself. However, the journey towards achieving this goal demands a multi-faceted approach. It requires a holistic integration of innovation, sustainable practices, robust infrastructure, market access, and most importantly, empowering local communities, especially smallholder farmers, who are the backbone of the continent’s agricultural sector. This transformative agenda will necessitate cross-sector collaboration between governments, the private sector, and international partners, as well as a strong commitment to investing in youth, women, and technology in agriculture. The Kampala Declaration's emphasis on sustainable growth aligns well with the pressing need to address climate change, enhance food security, and ensure equitable access to nutritious food across the continent. Africa's path to self-sufficiency in food production is not just about increasing yield—it’s about reimagining systems that are resilient, inclusive, and capable of withstanding global challenges. The conversations sparked by the CAADP strategy are essential to ensure that the continent’s agrifood systems not only feed its people but also contribute to global sustainability goals. As we look ahead, let us continue to support initiatives like the CAADP Strategy, and focus on creating environments where Africa's agrifood systems can thrive, ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for generations to come. #Agriculture #FoodSystems #Sustainability #AfricaRising #CAADP #KampalaDeclaration #AgrifoodTransformation #SelfSufficiency

This week, African Heads of State, the African Union, and key stakeholders in the agricultural sector came together in Kampala, Uganda, to launch a transformative 10-year strategy to secure food and nutrition security across the continent. The Kampala Declaration, unveiled during an AU summit, lays out ambitious goals to shape sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agrifood systems by 2035. The strategy prioritizes: 🌾 Boosting agricultural output by 45% 📉 Reducing post-harvest losses by 50% 🌍 Tripling intra-African trade in agrifood products 🏭 Increasing locally processed food to 35% of agrifood GDP 🌱 Expanding sustainable land management to cover 30% of the continent ⚖️ Narrowing the yield gap between male and female farmers by 50% These commitments align with Africa's bold ambitions under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat (AfCFTA) and build on lessons from the 2014 Malabo Declaration while addressing challenges like climate change, population growth, and food system resilience. 🤝 African nations will undergo biennial reviews to monitor progress, with public-private partnerships and regional cooperation central to achieving these goals. While there are challenges ahead, the vision for a sustainable agricultural future inspires optimism. Learn more by visiting this article: https://lnkd.in/dVbH9ahV Neema K. 🌍 A World Without Hunger Is Possible! 🌍 Last week, I was honored to participate in UNIDO’s #WorldWithoutHunger conference in Addis Ababa, where the message was clear: A world without hunger is possible. Achieving this vision will take a unified effort from all sectors. A critical takeaway was that government investments alone can’t fully solve the challenge of food security. Industry involvement is essential to driving sustainable progress. GLOBALG.A.P. is proud to support this mission by contributing to capacity-building initiatives that empower farmers, strengthen farm assurance, and facilitate access to markets. The event also highlighted the need for communication, collaboration, and alignment across sectors to ensure lasting impact. Working alongside partners like #UNIDO and other stakeholders, we’re more committed than ever to fostering resilient agricultural communities and securing a future free from hunger. Thank you to all participants and UNIDO for advancing this critical dialogue and inspiring action! #WorldWithoutHunger #UNIDO #SustainableAgriculture .#CapacityBuilding #FoodSecurity #IndustryCollaboration #FutureOfFood #AgriculturalEmpowerment #PublicPrivatePartnerships

Fifteen months after the #AfricaFoodSummitDakar2, where $72 billion was mobilised for #agriculture development and transformation across Africa, significant progress has been made. Six African countries – #Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, #Nigeria, Sierra Leone and #Zambia – have established Presidential Delivery Councils to drive the implementation of their Country Food and Agriculture Delivery Compacts. Another twelve countries, comprising Benin, Burundi, Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, #Ethiopia, Egypt, #Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, #Senegal, Malawi, and Togo, are in the process of operationalising their councils. The African Development Bank Group has committed to investing $2.9 billion to support these Compacts and has appointed two Special Envoys to coordinate and support the councils. The Bank's president, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, reiterated the institution's commitment to investing $25 billion over a ten-year period to increase food production and bolster the continent's agricultural resilience. Today, at the ATLAS Lab Session, we convened key leaders from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors to address the financing gap in #AfricanAgriculture. During this panel discussion co-hosted by Paris Peace Forum, OCP Group, UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in partnership with Somalia, Our Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Leonardus Vergütz, highlighted the vast potential of African agriculture, which currently contributes approximately 20% to the continent's GDP although it employs 60% of its workforce. Dr. Leonardus remarked, "#Africa possesses about 60% of the world's uncultivated arable land, presenting a remarkable opportunity to enhance global #FoodSecurity. However, we must confront significant challenges, including a $200 billion annual financing shortfall." He stressed the importance of forging effective public-private partnerships to assist farmers in adopting sustainable practices. “Through initiatives like the collaboration between IFC - International Finance Corporation and OCP Group, we aim to mobilize $800 million in blended capital by 2030 to strengthen agricultural value chains and reduce dependency on subsidies and food imports”. "Together, we can drive greater political focus and investment in African agriculture, enhancing food security and fostering a sustainable future for our communities," he added. #Investment #SDGs #UNGA79 #AfricanAgriculture

Join us at the 2024 #usafricabizsummit for a conversation on how Africa plans to turn food insecurity into a thriving #agribusiness sector. By the end of this century, more than half of the world's population growth is expected to come from Africa, reaching more than 4 billion people. At present, the African continent has a significant challenge of food security and resilience while at the same time having 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land. In time, Africa can reshape its food future through a coherent, strategic, and pragmatic approach to support entrepreneurship and technology in the agribusiness sector. To do so effectively, it needs expertise, technology access, and partnerships. The U.S. agriculture sector is one of the largest and most productive in the world, possessing incredible resources and expertise. However, the U.S. agro-industrial sector is almost entirely built out, and future growth will likely come from outside America’s borders.
