Keep in mind that "public service" covers a huge range of professions and there isn't a better time to enter the building code industry. If people have questions in how the building code industry works, I'm happy to answer these. The VA helped me find my career path after I was injured serving in the Navy. As code officials (building inspector, plans examiner, building official, fire marshal, and the the like), we play a somewhat passive role in community safety, when compared with the roles of Police and Fire personnel. We keep communities safe by verifying structures meet minimum codes. Are you someone who pays close attention to details and who possesses exceptional interpersonal skills? The code industry may be the avenue to pursue. #careers #buildingcodes #buildinginspection #publicservice #civilservice #codeofficial #iccsafe #veteransaffairs #communitysafety #safecommunities
DoD leaders recently gave their thoughts on how the department can better publicize the plethora of opportunities there are to serve in the military or as a civilian. For instance, young people who aren’t eligible for military service have several other options, such as the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. Also, public servants can help simply by spreading the word of what it’s like to give back to society.

Military housing...across the board...it's the Good, the Bad, and lots of Ugly. It's no secret there are issues...concurrently, who is being held accountable? Someone is at the tip of the spear...the chain of command is a great starting point. > Where was the chain of command...from the lowest levels to the installion command group? > Were they prevented from raising these issues by their commanders? > Did they ever inspect the barracks or family housing? Has it turned into a choice to inspect? > Is there no feedback mechanism for post housing or barracks for repairs? What issues have you seen...any service?? This entire matter should be an earmark in the budget with triggers to report back to Congress on progress...by military installation. There should be strong consequences for those commands that fail to comply!! #VETLANTA #veterans #Veteran #Army #navy #airforce #marine #Marines #coastguard

The United States Coast Guard, one of our nations revered institutions, has long been synonymous with a selflessness of public service, commitment to public safety, and an unwavering dedication to duty. This storied branch of the armed forces, respected globally, has historically set the standard for maritime excellence and unwavering public service. However, recent developments within the organization paint a concerning picture – a subtle yet significant shift from serving the public to serving personal and fraternal interests. At the heart of this troubling trend is a growing culture among certain factions of the Coast Guard’s officer corps, characterized by self-serving attitudes and a misplaced sense of superiority. This mindset is a stark deviation from the Coast Guard's foundational ethos of serving the American public and protecting our nation's waterways. Instead of looking outward to the public they swore to protect, these individuals seem to be looking inward, prioritizing personal gain and career advancement over the greater health of all of their membership and the public at large. This inward turn is not just a departure from the Coast Guard's mission; it’s a fundamental betrayal of public trust. The essence of the Coast Guard has always been about putting others first – rescuing those in peril, safeguarding our waters, and being a steadfast guardian of our maritime borders. Yet, when officers become preoccupied with their own fraternal ambitions, the focus on public service wanes, and the mission suffers. It's important to note that this does not cast aspersions to the entire officer corps. Many in the Coast Guard continue to serve with the highest level of integrity and dedication to public service. However, the impact of a self-centered minority cannot be overlooked. It's a ripple effect that can demoralize the rank and file, diminish public confidence, and hinder operational effectiveness. Addressing this shift requires more than acknowledgment; it demands action. Congress and Coast Guard leadership must actively work together to realign the organization’s culture with its core mission of public service. This involves not only reinforcing the values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty but also ensuring these principles are reflected in every aspect of the Coast Guard's operations. The US Coast Guard has a proud legacy, one that is built on sacrifice, bravery, and a deep commitment to serving the American people. It’s imperative that the organization returns to these guiding principles. The nation deserves a Coast Guard that stands as a paragon of public service, not self-service. It’s time to chart a course back to these fundamental values and ensure that the Coast Guard remains a symbol of honor, courage, and commitment to the public good. #USMC BRASS CANNOT EVEN PROVIDE SAFE DOMESTIC HOUSING FOR #Marines & #Families Do they acknowledge that #mold in #military barracks and #militaryFamily housing is cause grave & mystery illnesses? As a civilian, I know first hand that guerilla lawfare and failures to properly mitigate #waterdamage can cause what the doctors call terminal illnesses. #Facebook has many support groups for #mold & #mycotoxin survivors- and many of the groups are wailing walks of desperation pain and impending death. Veterans Liaison/Aliya Health Group (SME)Tanner Thomas Village for Veterans: “Solving homelessness-one intrinsically valuable veteran at a time” 🇺🇸
The Department of Defense (DoD) is actively promoting a culture of accountability and transparency by raising awareness about avenues for personnel to report concerns and whistleblow. This initiative educates personnel on various reporting channels, such as the Inspector General's office, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and Congress. Success hinges on the Pentagon's commitment to protecting whistleblowers, investigating concerns, and ensuring accountability. #WhistleblowerProtection #Accountability #Transparency

Community + Military + Trust = 😃 Often times, active duty service members will flag an issue to surrounding communities, which they could otherwise not discuss, for one reason or another. For instance, I was not initially tracking the proposed homeowners insurance rate hikes. A #marine, who lived along the coast, was told he couldn’t testify at the state capitol regarding the hikes and their impact on quality of life. So, I testified. Years back, I was quite vocal about concerns surrounding the COVID vaccine and its inconsistent implementation across the Marine Corps. Nearly every concern I voiced was merely an amplification of concerns from SEAs and COs in the greater 5 county area. Most recently, I sat through recruiting sessions which were objectively frustrating to the #Marines in the room. Politics abound, they felt they couldn’t speak up, so I took down their concerns. When we look at successful defense communities, there is one common thread across them all - they are the voice of the base. Whether it’s milcon, policy, or programming, no one knows better than the marines what is needed. But often times, no one can advocate for those things quite like their civilian counterparts. When communities listen to and effectively relay base concerns, you see success. Alternatively, when the trust between community and commands erodes, you see significant struggles. If at any point the bases cannot trust their surrounding community to properly advocate on their behalf, fissures will grow. In larger teams, like Allies for Cherry Point or NCMAC, you’ll find we tend to have passion projects, or areas we’re a bit more focused on than others. For instance, I track the budget and milcon, but solely to back-fill when someone else isn’t available in conversations. My specialty is “people.” If you need to know what the Marines are thinking about any given topic, at any given time, that’s where I come in. Whatever your passion is, identify it, lean in, and use it to support the base. #semperfi 📸: that’s my best friend ☺️ ____________ Association of Defense Communities (ADC) #marinecorps #2maw #2mef #northcarolina #militaryaffairs #milcon #defense #veteransstrengtheningamerica #betheone

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of the Navy say attorneys representing people hurt by contaminated water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune cannot receive more than 25% of any client’s recovery as fees. The DOJ and the Navy added the fee caps on Sept. 15 to a guidance document for victims interested in the government’s new elective option for settling Camp Lejeune claims without going to court, which offers a set amount of money as #compensation for a specific set of illnesses. Fees for attorneys whose clients take the elective option or settle administrative claims against the government would be capped at 20%, while those with clients who pursue #litigation would collect 25%. For your situational awareness
Stop Suicide USA is a tremendous resource for suicide prevention and intervention. This program was launched by a close friend of mine, Kenneth Koon, a fellow retired Army officer with whom I served in the 94th Division when I was Brigade Judge Advocate and he was Command Chaplain, respectively. Ken initially started this nonprofit as Armed Forces Mission, with a focus on military personnel and veterans, but has since expanded it to assist law enforcement and first responders, as well as to provide training to members of the community as well. I've served on their advisory board in the past and have recently begun designating a portion of every attorney fee check I obtain from settlements to support their ministry. I can't say enough good things about Ken and his work and recommend that you review their website and consider volunteering or supporting their mission. The link for Stop Suicide USA website is https://lnkd.in/eSSCzYmC
