💡 Did you know that steelmaking by-products currently emit around 49 million tonnes of CO₂ annually? And each year, approximately 250,000 tonnes of zinc-rich by-products end up in landfills because they cannot be recycled with existing technologies?   🌍♻️ We are proud to be a partner in the ZHYRON project, an EU-backed initiative addressing one of the steel industry’s biggest challenges: sustainable recycling of by-products and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. With the EU’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the steel industry faces a target to reduce CO₂ emissions by 35%. The ZHYRON project is helping to meet this need by developing innovative circular economy solutions for a more sustainable future. Earlier this year, Wabtec Corporation organized its first ever sustainability awards—and I’m seriously impressed with the winners’ innovations. The projects submitted by the 14 nominees and 4 winners made it clear that Wabtec is full of great ideas to advance sustainability. Our teams in the US, Germany and India won our Innovating with Purpose award with their mining truck-trolley retrofit project. Wabtec Mining’s customers need large trucks to remove materials from their mines. To give you an idea of how big these trucks are - just one tire stands over 3.6 meters tall and weighs nearly 4 tons.  As a supplier of parts for mining vehicles, we are always looking for ways to reduce the fuel requirements and emissions of mining trucks with solutions like our AC drive system. The winning team has taken things a step further by retrofitting 20 existing trucks to run on electricity from overhead catenary wires.  The result is 28 L of fuel saved per trip, 700 tons of CO2 saved per truck per year, and increased productivity thanks to a 78% increase in climbing speed. By improving our products and advancing our sustainability goals, this project perfectly encapsulates the concept of “Innovating with Purpose” – a key sustainability pillar at Wabtec.  #InnovatingWithPurpose #WabtecMining #RevolutionizeTheWayTheWorldMoves

⚡INERATEC and Sasol extend partnership for sustainable aviation ✍️ Both have signed a five-year contract for the supply of Fischer-Tropsch catalysts. It is going to be used for #SAF production at commercial scale in our e-Fuel pioneer plant in Frankfurt, Germany.
