The future of our nation depends on the education we provide today. Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and contribute to a better world. By supporting the education of out-of-school children, we are not just averting a crisis; we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous nation for generations to come. #Educationforall #BLOOMProject #sdg4 #unicef UNESCO UNICEF

Strong Democracy for Africa’s Success: My Contribution to the 2024 Global Outlook for Children and Young People at the UNICEF Youth Foresight Circle 2023. How will you feel when you wake up and the government decides to censor the media? What will life mean to you when you are constantly being dictated by a person or an organization? How will you feel when you find out that the next generation will probably live in a world full of chaos? These are questions that I have always pondered as a beneficiary of democracy. On the 21st of October 2023, I participated in the UNICEF YOUTH FORESIGHT CIRCLE workshop, where I contributed to the UNICEF Youth Foresight work and the Global Outlook 2024 for Children and Young People on the future of world democracy. Through the process, I contributed to the formulation of policies and strategies on how to strengthen future democracy in the world, especially in Africa. Studies show that the rate at which democracy is deteriorating in Africa is alarming. The continent has experienced 21 coups in the past eight years, with a percentage of 53% willing to endorse military rule at any time. This is a worrying situation considering the future the continent seeks to build. It is obvious that dictatorship and military rule have not in any way helped Africa and should not be encouraged. This is why some of us have dedicated ourselves to fighting for the right cause and to supporting the strengthening of democracy in Africa and the world. It is an honor to be part of this great process and to have learned a lot from it. My name is ENOCK MANOBA DANIEL and I stand for good governance and strong democracy. Thanks to UNICEF Innocenti, Shai Naides and the team for this opportunity #democarcy #unicef #security #geopolitics #youth

It is increasingly rare for donors to fund multi-sectoral projects. ODA is often earmarked sectorally, leaving it to recipients to find ways to cover the gaps. This partnership is different. Grateful to the Government of Korea, through KOICA, for recognizing the indivisibility of child rights. This partnership will support health, nutrition, WASH, education & and protection services in two provinces with high levels of child deprivation. #UNICEFthxKOREA
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Government and UNICEF, with funding from The Republic of Korea through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Philippines launched a programme to strengthen community resilience and services for children, adolescents and women living in vulnerable communities. #UNICEFthxKOREA #ForEveryChild Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations

📚 Education is the key that unlocks a world of opportunities, enabling children to realize their dreams and aspirations. It's not just a right; it's a foundation for a brighter future. 🌟 If I think back about my high school I think about our history teacher who always pushed us to think about why a certain event happened on a certain date rather than just memorize the dates. I can still see him sitting on the table cross-legged and telling us the stories. I believe that history gives us the tools to explain the issues in the past and learn about the future. Join us in celebrating World Children's Day by sharing a cherished memory from your school days in the comments below. 🎒📝 Whether it's a teacher who inspired you, a friendship that grew stronger in the classroom, or a moment of enlightenment that changed your perspective – your story can highlight the transformative power of education. November 20 is the United Nations' World Children's Day! The Shampoo Question: A Lesson in Education and Understanding On campus once, I was thrown a curveball question: "Does someone like you use shampoo?" Coming from someone of a different background, it initially felt racially charged. But before a response fueled by frustration could escape my lips, my brain did a 360. A flood of memories washed over me – specifically, my multiculturalism classes during an eye-opening camp with Ashinaga Foundation in Uganda and Senegal. Suddenly, I understood. This person wasn't being malicious, just operating on limited information. My big smile reflected this realization. "Absolutely," I chuckled, "and not just shampoo, the whole hygiene kit!" This encounter highlighted the power of education in dismantling stereotypes. It wasn't just that other person who needed to learn; I, too, had been unconsciously harboring stereotypes that my education helped me deconstruct. Education is a cornerstone of peacebuilding. By fostering critical thinking, open-mindedness, and appreciation for diversity, it equips us to: - Challenge prejudice by exposing us to different cultures and perspectives, dismantling stereotypes and building bridges of understanding. - Communicate effectively through building strong communication skills which will allow us to express ourselves clearly and listen attentively, fostering productive dialogue, an invaluable asset for peaceful conflict resolution. - Promote social justice. In fact, education that champions human rights and social justice creates a society where everyone feels valued, reducing tensions and fostering a sense of shared humanity. Let's invest in education that promotes tolerance, dialogue, and critical thinking. Together, we can create a world where the "shampoo question" is a relic of the past, replaced by genuine curiosity and understanding. Investing in quality education in Africa is of a striking importance. With an increasing population, leaders and stakeholders need to commit to putting children in school right from early childhood. This is an essential pathway of achieving growth and sustainable development in every sector of the continent. Thus, in summary, today's DYK sends one message; quality education should be made affordable and available for all children in Africa, now! On World Children’s Day, UNICEF’s annual day of action for children commemorating the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, it is worth highlighting that there are an estimated 80 million children and young people who are not in school, and are thereby deprived of one of their essential rights: access to education. Every child should receive all the benefits that school offers, giving them opportunities to grow, thrive and flourish, and to meet their potential. Childhoods are often cut short when a child is forced, for whatever reason, to leave school. To that end, Education.org is currently revising its policy brief on Accelerated Education Programmes, which guides national governments in their policy making, so they reach more girls and boys who are outside formal education systems. We will be launching this Update in December at the Global Refugee Forum, in Geneva. The relaunch of this important document could not be more timely, given the growing number of children affected by poverty and population movements caused by war and conflict, as well as climate change and environmental degradation. We are committed to making education provision more equitable, advocating for all children and young people who continue to face barriers to accessing school, and by supporting education leaders and policymakers to make the best use of evidence to guide their national policies and plans. https://lnkd.in/eFvDsKk4 #education #sdg4 #educationevidence #unicef
