Next phase of Riverside Sunderland regeneration underway “Once complete, the works will pave the way for the next phase of Riverside Sunderland, unlocking yet more investment and providing a much better experience for those living, working and visiting the city.” The next phase of the transformative Riverside Sunderland regeneration project, “one of the UK’s largest and most ambitious urban regeneration projects” is set to start, with Esh Construction having been appointed as lead contractor. With plans to deliver improved public spaces, upgraded footpath and cycle connections, as well as critical infrastructure including a pedestrian footbridge to support the ongoing development of the Sheepfolds area surrounding the Stadium of Light, the development “is already redefining the city’s skyline”. Work to begin on city’s new Riverside Park 🌳 An ambitious project to transform swathes of land spanning both sides of the River Wear into a new city centre park is set to get underway. Esh construction has been appointed by Sunderland City Council to lead on the first phase of Riverside Park, situated at the heart of #RiversideSunderland. One of the UK’s largest urban regeneration projects, Riverside Sunderland is a multi-billion-pound project breathing new life into the city’s former industrial heartland. Covering 13.7 hectares of parkland and 5.3 hectares of river, Riverside Park, which comprises Galley’s Gill, Kingsley Gardens, Lambton Riverside and Wearmouth Riverside, will be delivered in several phases as the wider regeneration progresses. What's going on in Cambridgeshire? Construction News reports that the Crown Estate has revealed plans for a £1.5bn overhaul of a commercial district in eastern England to create a new science-led neighbourhood. The Treasury-sponsored body said Cambridge Business Park would feature more than 250 homes alongside laboratories and offices. Subject to planning consent, construction is expected to begin in 2026 with the new neighbourhood open and operational by 2030. Several major developments are currently planned or underway in Vancouver's False Creek area, signaling significant changes to this iconic waterfront district: ⚫ Concord Landing (Northeast False Creek) 📌 Concord Pacific unveiled plans for a massive development called "Concord Landing" in Northeast False Creek. 📌 The proposal includes 12 towers with 5,000 homes on the last major undeveloped land along False Creek. 📌 The project aims to connect downtown to the waterfront by realigning Georgia Street. 📌 It would feature up to 50 smaller stores or restaurants, convertible playing fields, and bike/walking routes. ⚫ Viaduct Removal 📌 The plan involves removing the twin viaducts serving the downtown core. 📌 Concord Pacific and Metropolitan Properties have pledged a combined $210 million to help address the funding gap for viaduct demolition. ⚫ City-led Initiatives The Northeast False Creek Plan, approved in 2018, proposes: 📌 1,800 units of social housing 📌 32 acres of new and renewed parks and open space 📌 Replacement of viaducts with an at-grade street network In July 2024, the city approved amendments to deliver more than 661 units of social housing on 3 sites in the False Creek North area. ⚫ False Creek South 📌 The city is restarting the planning process for the 80 acres of city-owned land in False Creek South. 📌 A new False Creek South Comprehensive Development Plan is being created. 📌 The vision includes more affordable housing, expanded green space, better transit, and enhanced access to arts and culture. ⚫ Community Engagement 📌 The city plans to work closely with stakeholders and the community to address key issues around leases and future land use in False Creek South. 📌 In October 2021, City Council approved principles for False Creek South's future, including retaining existing affordable housing and building additional affordable and co-op housing. These developments aim to transform False Creek into a more vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive neighborhood while addressing Vancouver's housing needs and urban planning goals. #falsecreek

Proposals to create a new sustainable coastal town at Granton Waterfront have moved a step closer to reality with the first phase of the £1.3billion masterplan given the go-ahead following unanimous agreement by The City of Edinburgh Council’s Development Management Sub-Committee today. The area forms part of the Capital’s largest brownfield site, centred around the newly refurbished Gasholder, and will be transformed into an exciting new development of 847 net zero homes, 45% of which will be of affordable tenure. Proposals also include for attractive and accessible open spaces, over 2000m2 of commercial space, a mobility hub, and new and enhanced active travel routes and public transport connections. The development is to be heated through a new low carbon heat network, and a primary school is proposed to be delivered alongside this residential-led development.
