Strategist & Partnerships Leader | Driving Impactful Change in Business | Experienced in developing Communications campaigns for a fairer future
🙏Honoured that the entry I put forward for Arup and Conservation Volunteers Australia ‘s #sharedvalue thought leadership research ( Biodiversity in your backyard: the future of nature in your hands) and subsequent release of the content at the Leaders For Nature forum (a cohort of 15 C suite leaders all committed to delivering environmental solutions) has meant we are now a *finalist* in the ✨Shared Value Awards!✨ Wow! 🌳The challenge we set ourselves was identifying the *potential* of turning 30 per cent of the available spaces in cities and towns into biodiverse areas - highlighting how much of an opportunity for nature this would provide and what we needed to make it happen 🌳 Given virtually half of Australia’s threatened species live in urban areas (alongside 96% of the population) as our need for homes grows - so do theirs. Businesses could help scale a much bigger response. The opportunity we had to work with insightful knowledgeable leaders like Sophie St John to secure our rich findings was immense for a Not For Profit. A pleasure working with such brains 🧠 who gave so much of their free time outside of the pro bono project agreed. The results? #Sydney #Brisbane #Melbourne - has the potential to cumulatively create 127 hectares of habitat by creating 1 metre x 1 metre square ‘shoebox size’ spaces for nature on decks, on balconies and in cities - via scaling an action called #NatureBlocks 🌳🦋 ✨I am very grateful to Arup for their support, their research has helped build the business case for nature and convince leaders at the forum that we need a “systems” approach to scale change for our environmental challenges. ✨ Thank you to my cohort of leaders at Leaders For Nature committing to do more for #people #planet #nature. Businesses can scale impact for #biodiversity and go ‘beyond the spreadsheet’ requirements for ESG. Happy #BCorpMonth, to all who celebrate! Last week we attended an enlightening panel with Lucie Montel, Ana Bernardo, Alexandra Florea, and Albert Howard on what it means to be #BCorpCertified. Achieving Certified B Corporation status is becoming less of a “nice to have” and more of a strategic imperative for sustainably minded companies. Which is why it was encouraging to hear panellists talk through how achieving B Corp status helped them to align their operations with their values. The long delayed Version 7 of the B Corp Performance Standards was front of mind when talking about the future. Specifically how B Corp status may be becoming harder to achieve - but there is plenty of useful advice on offer for businesses making the journey: • No matter what you do and how well you document things, someone will eventually accuse you of Greenwashing - so have confidence that what you’re doing is making a difference! • We love our frameworks just a bit too much. Don’t find yourself married to them in a way that prevents you from making obvious easy positive change. • The change from a “flexible” points-based system to a more comprehensive “minimum requirements” approach in Version 7 is a good thing - we don’t become B-Corps because it's easy, we do it to make a difference. Why does this matter? Because at Make Honey we incorporate B-Corp principles into everything we do. Both in our own organisation, and in the work that we do with our clients. Profit and purpose go hand in hand, but getting off the french and committing to positive action is the key to a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future. #BCorp #Sustainability #PurposeDrivenBusiness #SocialImpact #WorkLife

Set against a backdrop of a consequential US presidential election, the role of business in shaping the future is crucial. Companies, however, often wrestle with how to engage on social justice and climate justice issues—and even how to define what social justice and climate justice mean exactly. Join BSR Center for Business and Social Justice Co-Directors Jennifer Stark and Jarrid Green for a breakout session: Practical New Guides for Business Engagement on Social Justice and Climate Justice, at this year‘s Brand-Led Culture Change event, hosted by Sustainable Brands. In this session, Jen and Jarrid will be joined by Forum for the Future to share insights on two newly released guides aiming to empower business leaders and practitioners to translate social justice and climate justice theory into thoughtful and purposeful corporate actions. When: Friday, May 10, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Register: https://lnkd.in/gVCMp3TN. Please use the code "Atdspk20" for a discount of 20 percent. #sustainablebusiness #publicaffairs #externalaffairs
