Grants Available: 1. Pendle Grant: Up to $30,000 per grant that support projects in multiple focus areas. 2. Novo Nordisk Chronic Disease Grant: Up to $25,000 per grant that undertake initiatives aimed at: Tackling the rise of chronic diseases through disease prevention, stabilization, and management interventions that support equity-deserving communities that are at higher risks of developing chronic diseases. Addressing health disparities and improving health equity and health outcomes for people from Indigenous, Black/African/Caribbean, and South Asian communities living with, or at an elevated risk of developing chronic diseases. 3. Hazel McCallion Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant: Up to $10,000 per grant that support projects in arts, culture and heritage. 4. Smart and Caring Children and Youth Grant: Up to $3,000 per grant that undertake initiatives in support of children and youth in Mississauga. Looking back at 2023, we have to acknowledge the wonderful organisations we've supported, and the remarkable work they've been able to deliver because of the grants directly provided by the Randal Charitable Foundation. Here are a few of our many highlights from the past year: 💡 The Centre for Social Justice: We continued our multi-year support by providing funding for the creation of a detailed report/study on loneliness and isolation, including a strategy for tackling this hidden epidemic. The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme introduced by the police in partnership with other agencies, which encourages people living with dementia and carers to compile useful information which could be used in the event of a vulnerable person going missing. The form should be completed in advance, and all vital details, such as medication required, mobile numbers, places previously located, a photograph, etc., should be recorded. If a family member or friend goes missing, the form can be easily handed to the police to reduce the time taken to gather this information. ❔ When should the form be sent to the police? 👉 The police only need the form when the person is reported missing. There is no need to hand it to the police before then. ❔ Where should the form be stored? 👉 It should be stored securely, in accordance with data protection laws, but where it can be accessed quickly. ❔ What should a caregiver do if the person goes missing? 👉 After you have conducted an 'open door' search of the address, grounds, and outbuildings and you believe a person is missing, alert the police as soon as possible. If you believe the missing person is at a high risk of harm, please call 999. Tell the police operator that there is a Herbert Protocol person profile. Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation: Grants to Improve the Lives of Disadvantaged People (UK) – Deadline: 31st October 2024 Grants of up to £6,000 are available to registered charities working to improve the wellbeing, welfare, and education of children and adults in communities throughout the UK. The funding will support initiatives that: • Benefit children and adults, particularly those living in socially deprived areas, through education to develop core skills and support wellbeing and mental health, • Benefit the wellbeing and welfare of children and adults by preventing or reducing poverty and homelessness in the community, • Support the elderly and improve their wellbeing by reducing isolation, helping reduce the effects of dementia and Alzheimer's, and support later life/palliative care. The types of activity that could be supported include: • Equipment to support young people transition from homelessness to new accommodation such as toiletries, bedding, cooking utensils, • Equipment to engage the elderly in activities, exercise and experiences to help improve mental and physical wellbeing such as a large, digital, interactive activity table for a care setting. Rather than letting these supplies go to landfill, our Health and Safety Officer Marc, has taken the proactive initiative to organise to donate them to this worthy charity. By repurposing these resources, we're not only extending their useful life but also supporting Medical Pantry to provide essential resources to communities where access to these resources may be limited. Medical Pantry have diverted 15 tonnes of medical supplies from landfill and donated 8 tonnes directly to underserved communities. As a company, we're committed to continually exploring innovative ways to give back and to adopt sustainable practices. This quote, from our new #HealthNow evaluation, brilliantly articulates both the simplicity and the power of a key part of Groundswell - Homelessness Charity UK's approach, and why it works so well, provides trust, connection and hope - and leads to real change. #HealthNow led to seismic changes across England - from improving health outcomes & reducing health inequalities for individuals and communities; better embedding health, and the appreciation of the power of lived experience and participation with our partner and peer organisations; to informing national guidelines and frameworks.
