Mini Track on Examining the Future of AI and Human Systems Integration Mini Track Chair: Lori D. Coombs, Marymount University, USA ICAIR 2024 4th International Conference on AI Research 5-6 December 2024, Lisbon, Portugal Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) is required for developing a solid global framework that ensures AI considers the best interests of humanity. The scope of this mini track highlights how humanity-centered design influences Human-computer interaction (HCI) and impacts development of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Human-computer Interfaces (HCI) for Human Systems Integration (HSI) purposes. HSI is an approach for developing systems that focuses on interfaces between humans and complex intelligent systems in operator, maintainer, sustainer, trainer, and designer roles. This mini track studies how interfaces are used in everyday tasks such as touch ID sensors to access touchscreen tablets and mobile phones, as well as GPS voice command technology that allows users to control navigation systems using a voice user interface (VUI) in user-friendly ways. Talks will examine technical aspects of complex intelligent systems, AI bias, the importance of clean data sets, and how wealth created by machines may be distributed as the human workforce is reduced. Theoretical and practical contributions are invited to this mini track. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: • How algorithmic prejudice, negative legacy, and/or underestimation bias in AI affects data collection • Using AI, ML, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning and Neural Networks to enhance platforms (hardware and software) • Cybersecurity implications associated with critical infrastructures that use HSI • NextGen platforms and the evolution of human end-users in technology design • Advances in policy to incorporate HSI planning in global frameworks • How the draft text of the Recommendation on the Ethics of AI developed by 193 Member states and the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) impacts HSI by supporting effective implementation Lori D. Coombs, MBA, MSE is an Assoc Prof at the Univ of Arizona Global Campus. Her career began with former US Vice Pres Candidate & Senator Joe Lieberman. She was appointed Delegate by Joe & former US Vice Pres Al Gore in 2000. She is CEO of WWCM, & Director of WWCM Academy, a nonprofit. She supports teams at NASA & C6ISR DoD programs. She is pursuing a D.Sc. in Cybersecurity at Marymount Univ. Her work on, “AI Risks in Higher Ed,” is published in the EJEL. In the first instance a 300 word abstract is required, to be received by 15th May 2024. If you have any questions about this track, please email the mini track Chair: LDC72459@marymount.edu See more about submissions and ICAIR at https://lnkd.in/exC-B4qu

This program is packed with insights related to #AI research targeting PhD candidates but benefitting all of us. Topics such as: automating the analysis of design protocols, AI #fluency in the humanities, #GenAI, managing #sensitivedata and AI in #universities, AI #literacy in doctoral education, AI and #research #careers, #ethical frameworks for GenAI adoption, GenAI for #knowledge similarity #transformation, how scientists can use AI #agents to create breakthroughs faster, GenAI in #community #consultations and more. Register qut.edu.au/egrad-con Full program: https://lnkd.in/gmcF4B29 When: 26 November 2024 (10-5pm Brisbane time) Title: Dual-Use AI: The Ultimate Game of Chess Abstract: Professor Katina Michael will explore dual-use AI using three case studies (#cybersecurity, #human #resource #management, and #game #design). Drawing from her interdisciplinary background in technology, business, law and society, Katina explores the double face of AI dependent on the strategic vantage point of the player, analogous to a game of chess. Whether AI is good or bad, really depends on who the #decisionmaker is, their #intentionality and the #context of the #game. The talk will delve into the socio-technical landscape of AI, and how environmental dimensions are critical in closing the policy-practice pacing problem. Prof. Michael will present several scenarios in which organizations have been held accountable whereby demonstrating the need for emphasis on corporate social responsibility (#CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (#ESG) priorities. This talk aims to raise awareness about the double face of AI, the importance of #human #leadership, and #failures in the loop and their #socialimplications. Who Wins Nobel Prizes? The article on #Nobel laureates (https://lnkd.in/dDfaSpYs) clearly shows that successful scientists often come from families with high income and #education levels. Turns out, the average laureate grew up in a family that was in the top 10% of society by income. If everyone had equal opportunities, Nobel winners would come from more average families. Globally, we need equal access to education to unlock everyone’s potential. Automation, including tools for #checking and #evaluating work, is one way to help solve this issue. #EducationForAll #EdTech #NobelPrizes #AI #DigitalTransformation
