🍃GHD partners with SSEN to future-proof electricity networks GHD is proud to announce its recent project win alongside Frontier Economics and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN). The project, #Nature4Networks, aims to revolutionise the protection of electricity networks. Recognising that, while effective, traditional engineering approaches often have significant drawbacks – including high carbon intensity and limited additional benefits – with #climatechange exacerbating risks like flooding and extreme heat, exploring alternative, nature-based solutions that mitigate these challenges and offer broader benefits is critical. The project will seek to identify and assess #NatureBasedSolutions tailored to specific challenges and problems encountered by electricity networks. These considerations include flood resilience, carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement and social benefits. #Nature4Networks intends to map asset risks against a portfolio of nature-based solutions and compare their applicability and net benefits to traditional methods. Moreover, the project goes beyond mere exploration by quantifying the feasibility, costs and benefits of nature-based solutions relative to conventional solutions. Through meticulous analysis, #Nature4Networks seeks to demonstrate that these solutions provide effective alternatives and yield financial savings, #environmental benefits and increased social acceptance. By providing evidence of the demand and benefits of nature-based solutions, #Nature4Networks strives to foster innovation, attract investment, and ultimately, shape a greener future for electricity networks and beyond. This project win represents a significant step towards reimagining how to protect and sustain vital electricity networks in the face of climate change. The focus on nature-based solutions, along with the commitment to collaboration and innovation, positions GHD to make a lasting impact on the energy landscape. With a blend of technical expertise with our partners, Frontier Economics and SSEN, sustainability leadership and a track record of successful project delivery, GHD aspires to prompt a shift towards more sustainable and resilient infrastructure solutions.
