𝗜𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝟮.𝟬 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝟭.𝟬? Apparently. But why do so many VCs fall into the same trap again? 1.0 was often trying to find better PV than the incumbent. It failed miserably. Now 2.0 is often trying to find a better battery than incumbents, or a new carbon tech. It's also largely failing. Energy & carbon tech ≠ IT / soft. First, there's almost no way to differentiate your commodity product. Second, the capital mismatch is so obvious: odds are overwhelming that you'll burn through even a $300M runway years before your WACC even comes close to incumbents 6-8%. So there won't be another round or an exit, just BK. Innovative #EnergyTransition "business models" (i.e. not "tech") using proven tech can often avoid this trap. More focus on the high-probability doubles, and less swinging for the fences for the elusive unicorn home run. More "clean ventures" and less "clean tech". https://lnkd.in/eWh2yZA3

Move Energy invests in companies making a tangible impact towards achieving net-zero targets, with a focus on transport, buildings and power. In order to reach net zero by 2050, innovation in new high-impact technologies in these sectors will be essential. Move Energy merges the experience and networks of investment managers YARD ENERGY and Ponooc into a new, supercharged platform.
