In the News ➪ 5 Years In, How Does General Mills’ Regenerative Agriculture Commitment Measure Up? General Mills aims to advance regenerative agriculture on 1 million acres of land by 2030, a promise it made in 2019. That commitment is one way it hopes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout its value chain, 30 percent by 2030 and to net zero by 2050. "We are about halfway there, with 500,000 acres engaged in our programs," said Jay Watson, General Mills’ director of regenerative agriculture, in an interview. The journey has already begun. Farmers around the world are transitioning to regenerative agriculture right now. We might not have all the solutions yet to deliver a full-fledged regenerative agricultural system for every farm in every region, but the benefits are already visible even with only a contour of such a system. Brazilian farms participating in Bayer’s PROCarbono Program are living and thriving examples of this. They are pioneers fighting climate change, fostering soil health and achieving higher yields all at the same time. This was an interesting one to report and write: California begins campaign to define regenerative agriculture. Among other things, I did chat with the California Sec of Agriculture, Karen Ross, about the effort, along with other excellent sources at Lundberg Family Farms - including Bryce Lundberg & Brita Lundberg, Elizabeth Whitlow at Regenerative Organic Alliance, and Rebekah Weber at CCOF. However California goes about defining regen, it will be consequential for the movement nationwide. #regenerativeagriculture #regen #regenerativeleadership #regenerativefarming #regen

New blog on the importance of regenerative agriculture and practices. Finding ways to make conventional farming systems more sustainable can go a long way for the both the environment and for profitability of growers. As consumers we can also do our part through understanding where our food comes from and how it is produced. We all need to be conscious of our food production systems and their impact on ecosystem and human health.
The imperative to embrace regenerative agriculture extends far beyond the confines of farm fields - we have a collective responsibility – be you a Consumer, Farm manager, or CEO - as stewards of the Earth, to do our part in supporting regenerative agriculture and those who are implementing these practices. In short - support your farmers https://lnkd.in/ghsjdG26

The global agriculture system contributes to over 20% of the greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change. And the environmental, health, and socioeconomic costs associated with today’s food and land use system total nearly $12 trillion per year. The industry needs a reset. This is where regenerative agriculture comes in. There’s a potential 15-25% return on investment for farmers once they have shifted from conventional to regenerative agriculture. Our recent report with OP2B highlights the business case for regenerative agriculture for farmers in the US – and identifies the mechanisms needed to support widespread adoption. Mitchell Hora, a seventh-generation farmer in Iowa and CEO of Continuum Ag, highlights the benefits of regenerative farming: “We’ve improved the nutrient availability in our soil, and therefore we’ve been able to cut back on our synthetic inputs keeping those dollars in our pocket and been able to drive more profitability to the bottom line.” Read more on the regenerative agriculture opportunity for US farmers in our article here: https://lnkd.in/eHv9RXwX Watch the full video with Mitchell here: https://lnkd.in/eFYB-T3n

Restorative is a great marketing word since regenerative tends to suffer from the same misunderstanding or interpretation as sustainable. You end up having to define during the sale process, which can be cumbersome. Restoration covers a lot of those terms. There is such an important need for proper positioning and messaging of these practices so that they are meaningful to our consumers. #chicken #meatindustry #regenerativeagriculture Shelley Seed Mike Kotelko Larry Dalton Shiana Younger Understanding Ag, LLC - Experts in Regenerative Ag Regenerative Agriculture Venture Programme #regenerativeleadership #sustainability Kipster Sandra Vijn
With consumer interest in regenerative agriculture greatly increasing, farmers are wondering where the bridge lies that connects those consumers to the producer and more importantly, how can the farmer be compensated for management practices that regenerate soil health and biodiversity? Vital Farms recently released an organic egg marketed as "Restorative" with a price point of $10.99 per dozen. The product is certified Regenified, a certifying body co-founded by Gabe Brown. Shortly after it's launch, the product climbed to the top ten SKUS at Whole Foods Market, despite having a much higher price tag than it's competitors.
