Some very important points noted in this article by Matt Rudd for The Times. Essentially, we are not really recycling anymore and have been incinerating waste at an alarming rate, releasing pollutants into our breathing air and atmosphere. Very pleasing to see Wales taking the lead on this in the UK, and that new rules will be coming in 2025 called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). The groups shortlisted in this year's Waste Management Category, presented by Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), are innovating the way we #repurpose, #reduce, and dispose of #waste! Goodwill Industries of Alberta’s Repair for Good Program upcycles and refurbishes donated furniture, diverting over 25,000 kg from landfills since 2021, with over 8300 kg diverted in 2023 alone. Backroads Reclamation is turning Old Canadian Wood into new wood products to last another lifetime, saving as much lumber as possible while keeping it from the landfill or bonfire. Violet Grove’s Constructed Floating Wetlands System with Aeration aims to revolutionize #wastewater treatment in colder climates. With a vision to enhance effluent quality and promote environmental sustainability, this initiative introduces innovative natural treatment processes, leveraging the efficacy of wetlands even in cold climate settings. Waste and Recycling Workers Week is a great time to show your appreciation by serving those who serve our communities. Throughout the week of June 17th, join us in thanking your garbage collection providers and all those who work in the waste industry. Here are a few things you can do to show your support - Join the Recycling Effort - Let’s take some ownership for our garbage contributions. Consider ways you can reduce, recycle and reuse the things being thrown in the garbage from your own home. Call to Say, “Thank you” - It’s easy to complain when things are not done right. Consider calling your local provider with a word of thanks and appreciation for all the weeks they do their job well! Help Them Lift It! - Got a big pile after your spring cleaning efforts? How about meeting them at the curb and helping them lift it in. A little kindness goes a long way to show we are aware of their efforts. #SansomEquipment #WasteRecyclingWorkersWeek #Sanitation #PublicWorks #Recycling #Waste #SanitationWorkers #GarbageMan

At Nine Zero, we’re all about minimising waste! As part of this, we partner with farms close to our Cornwall workshop, supplying them with our timber waste to be repurposed for animal bedding and composting. This not only aids in reducing landfill contributions but also supports the local agricultural community in Southwest England. It’s also important to us to share our story and showcase how industrial waste can be transformed into valuable resources, which we hope encourages other eco-conscious businesses to assess and reduce their own environmental footprint. If you want to know more about how we are actively working to reduce our carbon footprint, read our latest blog 👇 https://loom.ly/wumVoFo #CarbonFootprint #ReducingCarbonFootprint #TimberWaste #TimberWindowsAndDoors #LocalFarms #NineZero

Ever wondered what happens to the trash we collect in the rivers? All of it goes back to one of our 7 sorting facilities, where we sort the waste into 30 different material categories. Our goal by sorting the waste we collect is to maximize the amount of trash that can be recycled and minimize what goals to landfill. Currently, we are able to recycle 70% of the waste we collect from rivers ♻️
