🌱 We're excited to announce that we've made it to the final of the Shared Value Project Award 2024 under the 'Climate and Nature Solutions' Category! Our project with Hang Lung Properties has been recognised for its commitment to #WasteReduction and #sustainability. 🏆 At SOS, we understand the importance of waste management and its impact on the environment. SOS is dedicated to changing the way office furniture and equipment is handled and believe we have a responsibility to keep unwanted items from ending up in landfills for as long as possible. We aim to create a #sustainable, #CircularEconomy ♻️ that does away with the old take-make-waste fast furniture model of old. In collaboration with Hang Lung Properties, one of the leading developers in Hong Kong, we undertook a project to handle unwanted furniture and equipment sustainably, ensuring they stay out of landfills. As the chosen project managers, we implemented various initiatives, including client reuse, staff take-home, community donation (with special thanks to Crossroads Foundation for assisting us in connecting with their network for distribution), and local recycling. Based on our ISO14064-2 aligned calculation methodology, this project has saved 510,990 kgCO2e in carbon emissions and diverted over 139,508 kg of weight from landfills. This project is a great example of sustainable practices. Hang Lung, being one of the biggest developers in Hong Kong, sets a strong example with its commitment to sustainability. We hope this project inspires more businesses to take similar steps, creating a positive impact in our community. #SustainableOfficeSolutions #Sustainablity #SharedValue #CorporateReputation #ESG #leadership #thoughtleadership

Water Stewardship Expert. Strategies that deliver value for nature and businesses are possible. Ask me how!
💧 Meandering Mondays with Water (ep 53) 💧 How do we stimulate greater diversity in our community? Thank you to everyone who contributed to last week’s discussion - it truly captured the spirit of Meandering Mondays by exploring topics slightly beyond the usual water stewardship focus. This week let’s start to talk about diversity (and really this is just the start). It’s a crucial conversation for our community, extending beyond gender, ethnicity, or nationality, or <insert trait> as Nahjan Amer Nordin highlighted. While we know our community isn’t as diverse as we’d like, let’s try to start identifying the starting points for more specific conversations that focus on solutions: ▶What specific aspects of diversity should we be discussing more openly? ▶How can we accelerate diversity transformation in our community? Some of the core drivers of the lack of diversity often originate from our own unconscious biases and assumptions and reflection and engaging with these can be uncomfortable for many, so I would encourage us to approach these discussions with kindness and a willingness to understand different perspectives. We don’t always need to agree but we should be striving to understand. I would also encourage us to be “impatiently patient” — impatient with the slow pace of change, but patient in recognizing that achieving true diversity will take time. As a South African who grew up during the country's transition to democracy, I’ve seen how diversity can strengthen a nation. But, even after 30 years of democracy, we’re still working on it and there are still hard conversations to be had but these are becoming easier (relatively!). So, transforming diversity in our community will take time but that does not mean that we should just automatically accept a slow pace of change at face value. #WaterStewardship #CorporateWaterStrategy #WaterAndBusiness Beatrice Bizzaro | Alejandro Ochoa Figueroa | Lucie Gerber | Jairo Guerrero | Giorgio Kaldor | Leni Peterson Redondo | Enrique Prunes | José Luis Carrasco | Alejandro Sturniolo | Marcela Moretti | Kanako Katayama | Harumichi Seta | Kopal Garg | Eric Oyare | Gershom Pule, MBA-PM | Ashish Bhardwaj | Sharif Hoque | Maheen Malik | Ali Amjad | Muteeb Ahmad S. | Doreen Mukami | Sohail Ali Naqvi | Hlengiwe Ndlovu-Msibi | Alyssa Jooste | Lulamile Makaula | Carin Bosman SFWISA | Faith Lawrence | Nick Tandi

Thanks for an informative and inspiring day! The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) Following on from the recent report in England that 2/3 of our Councils are concerned they may not be able to reach their 2024 targets for tackling climate change, I was interested to hear from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in their latest report, “Infrastructure for a climate resilient future”. They examine the economic costs of climate change in different cities and regions, and make useful recommendations. In the light of the important case heard this week in the European Parliament, the cost of not meeting our targets, may have just gone up. Elected Mayor Michael Quernez from Brittany talked implementing the Green Deal and about taking the residents with us. Deputy Mayor of Mechelen City, near Brussels, showed how new wetlands around the city had created a significant cooling effect in summer. Pedro Dias of Solar Heat pointed out that 80% of energy needed by industry was in the form of heat and 60% of domestic energy, so we should not think so much about electricity, but more about direct local heating systems instead. The European Commissioner, Lucian Panulescu faced some tough questioning and emphasized the partnership with local government and the need to prepare for a very destructive 3°C rise, now a realistic possibility, despite all our efforts. Their new report out today called the European climate risk assessment, shows Europe as the fastest warming continent and assesses at the risks involved. It is clear we need to support the green transition, with adequate resources and taking the public with us. We can draw on expertise and case studies from both within the EU as the Green Deal is implemented, and other European Countries, also making progress.
🌿 Join CEMR’s third “Green Day” on April 10! This hybrid event will convene CEMR associations and stakeholders to explore pressing sustainability issues for Europe’s regions and municipalities. Dive deep into discussions on the future of the green transition and water resilience. Register now to shape CEMR’s advocacy and contribute to a sustainable future! https://lnkd.in/e6a9bzkf #CEMRGreenDay #LocalGovernments #ClimateAction 🌍

The #GoldmanEnvironmentalPrize honors ordinary people who take extraordinary actions to protect our planet, which was started by Richard and Rhoda Goldman. I have been blessed to attend them all since they began in 1990. Richard Goldman's company was a client of ours. He and his wife Rhoda were visionary. The Goldman Environmental Prize recognizes grassroots environmental heroes from roughly the world’s six inhabited continental regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands & Island Nations, North America and South & Central America The Prize recognizes individuals for sustained and significant efforts to protect and enhance the natural environment, often at great personal risk. The Goldman Prize views “grassroots” leaders as those involved in local efforts, where positive change is created through community or citizen participation. Through recognizing these individual leaders, the Prize seeks to inspire other ordinary people to take extraordinary actions to protect the natural world. These are amazing people who had done the hard work and have made a difference for their country and the planet. Over 35 years, the Prize has had an immeasurable impact on the planet. To date, it has honored 226 winners—including 102 women—from 95 nations. This year's winners were amazing. Read their story and go to the Goldman Prize site to learn more and about the work of all of the other winners going back in time. It reminds you that anyone can make a difference. https://lnkd.in/gaazyiSn

#ListeningSession 8 - GCF’s President and CEO, Matthew Randazzo and Chief Impact Officer, Rasheda Malcolm-Cromwell hosted an open forum with organizations in the environmental sector that enrich our region through environmental beautification, stewardship, education and more. The discussion covered a wide range of topics and shared experiences. Key takeaways include a need for flexible grant funding and on staff development positions; a desire for more connections between potential donors and nonprofits; increase in public awareness of environmentally focused organizations and community impact stories; and access to innovation stories that provide a roadmap for cross sector work. How do you think our region can better serve nonprofits working to protect our green spaces and increase access to fresh food and nature? What does a greener, greater Cincinnati look like?

Last Saturday, the Goldwater IMPACT Club met to dive deep into the reinvention of socio-economic systems for enhanced social justice. Spearheaded by our brilliant early-career public policy professionals Cameron J. Benton Esq., CIPP/US C’24, and Kalif Robinson C’24 from the SIG TEAM 6 Cohort, the meeting was a vibrant mix of insightful analysis and spirited discussion. Their focus on the transformative potential of green and circular economies highlighted innovative ways to reduce carbon emissions and optimize resource utilization, drawing from successful global examples like the City of Culver City, California. During the session, discussions also explored the nuanced impacts of economic systems on marginalized communities, with Cameron Benson critically examining how these structures affect indigenous, Black, and Latinx groups. The need for a more equitable approach to intellectual property, especially in preserving cultural heritage, was passionately advocated by our founder, A. Prince Albert III, who called for creating new IP categories that recognize and protect traditional cultural expressions. As we continue to push the boundaries of public policy and corporate governance towards sustainability and equity, stay tuned for more inspiring updates from our IMPACT Club’s journey towards a just and sustainable future. 📖 Read more about the April meeting and forthcoming projects on our website 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/dWZFPSvk #GoldwaterVentures #IMPACTClub #SocialJustice #Sustainability #Innovation #IntellectualProperty #IP #CulturalSustainability #EconomicPolicy #EconomicReform
