In Aberdeen yesterday to support the breakfast meeting for the launch of the OW Ocean Winds Supply Chain Impact Report. As described by OW UK Country Manager Adam Morrison, the report looks "under the bonnet' to showcase 104 Scottish and UK supply chain companies who worked on Moray East and Moray West projects. The specially invited audience also heard from Maggie McGinlay, CEO of Energy Transition Zone Ltd and Aberdeenshire Councillor Doreen Mair who spoke about the impact of the OW O&M base in Fraserburgh Harbour and how it also galvanised an even more ambitious expansion of the harbour that would benefit not only offshore wind but the important existing fishing industry and boat repair and maintenance businesses in the town. The OW Supply Chain Impact Report highlights 15 of the companies and 4 ports and harbours as well as listing all 104 UK supply chain companies. The list includes 64 Scottish companies, 65% of whom are DeepWind members (half of the total 104 companies are members), so it was a great showing for the cluster. Four companies had stands at the event and it was great to see Balmoral Comtec, Clarksons, Helix Robotics Solutions and Utility ROV Services Ltd being able to talk about their roles in the Ocean Winds supply chain. A big thanks to Roger McMichael and Kate Miller of OW for all their hard work on the launch. Other DeepWind members showcased in the report include Siemens Gamesa, JDR Cable Systems, Seaway7, Siemens Energy, Global Energy Group, EODEX, Vysus Group, Robertson Group, Port of Nigg, Port of Cromarty Firth, Fraserburgh Harbour and Buckie Harbour. The Celtic Sea between Wales, England and the Republic of Ireland, is an almost virgin energy basin with huge offshore wind resources harbouring astonishingly rich ecosystems, very busy navigation, host to a thriving fishing industry. Much work is happening to unlock its wind energy potential, but in the absence of a clear plan progress is slower and costlier than it needs to be, and the overall picture is maybe more reminiscent of a Pollock than a Constable painting. Highly complex projects like this one need a systems approach across all relevant dimensions, tying all requisite strands together, from grid infrastructure and ports, to technology and supply chain development, consenting, the integration of broad stakeholder interests, and an investment framework for the private sector. Did someone say GB Energy? As a £20 billion project for the first 5GW, windpower in the Celtic Sea is comparable with Crossrail, the project that delivered the Elizabeth Line, London’s latest railway, that went from investment sanction to its 2022 opening in 14 years. The greatest similarity is that both the Celtic Sea and Crossrail create value for people way in excess of the basic functionality that they deliver. Railways aren’t about track and train carriages alone any more than windfarms are about turbines and cables. They deliver huge value to the societies in which they are embedded, creating opportunities for economic growth and empowering people to make the choices that suit their lives. But this can only be achieved by taking a holistic view where no-one is left behind. Here then is the great opportunity for our new government: creating a delivery body focused on the actual hardware that needs to be built. Empowering it to work across the many national and regional government departments. Funding it to commit to the long lead investments in ports, grids, and people. Taking a hard-nosed look at the technology interventions needed to make floating wind a viable option. And tasking it to create value for all sectors that derive their livelihoods from the Celtic Sea, going way beyond energy alone. Combined with the opportunities defined in the Industrial Growth Plan, the delivery plan from a Celtic Sea Delivery Body will send the clearest signals possible to energy developers, supply chains and societal stakeholders. This will galvanise our domestic industries and genuinely drive value creation in the regions around the Celtic Sea and way beyond. #offshorewind #celticsea #delivery

The Royal HaskoningDHV Offshore Ornithology Team is excited to have led an important study with HiDef Aerial Surveying Limited with input from NiMa Consultants Ltd. Murray Grant led the initiative on behalf of 12 projects in the East and Northeast ScotWind regions. The outcome is a report examining potential regional ornithological compensation measures that could be deployed at scale and contribute to the increased resilience of seabird populations in Scotland. The report highlights the challenge the industry is facing in delivering offshore wind at scale under the current regulations. Significant focus on this issue is essential to delivering Scotland’s 2045 net zero targets and realising the wider benefits of ScotWind. Continued collaboration between all stakeholder groups to devise a practicable and appropriate approach to compensation measures is vital if our net zero, energy security, and local supply chain ambitions are to become reality. We’re happy to having worked closely with the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (Norges Rederiforbund) and Offshore Norge in preparing the annual update on the offshore industry’s path towards the national emission targets. VPS has contributed with insight from the Maress database, in combination with our advisory services. This year’s KonKraft report has a new level of details in the chapter on Maritime Operations, providing deep insight into savings seen in various parts of the vessel operations and across vessel segments +++. The numbers clearly show that the emission intensity from maritime ops is dropping, but at the same time the activity is increasing. At the launch of the report the Norwegian Ministry of Energy Terje Aasland said that the targets are indeed demanding, but collaboration is key to reaching them. Further, he stated that the contribution from the report is important in the Government’s further climate policy development. Viggo Bondi, acting CEO in NSA commented that while initiatives like shorepower and energy efficiency are showing clear results, there is a big part of the transition that remains to reach the targets. For vessel owners ++, the part of the report highlighting savings potential from battery solutions and shorepower may be especially interesting. We also encourage everyone to take a look at the concrete industry examples (pp56 & 57) on how digital solutions and new technologies can contribute to emission reductions (including a reference to the #MaressSummerCampaign). https://lnkd.in/dq39QU4Z 📸 Captured at the report launch: Emilian Buksak, VPS Senior Decarbonisation Advisor, alongside Anne Jorunn Møkster, leader of the Offshore group in the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association. #ClimateAction #Sustainability #OilAndGas #Norway #KonKraft #EnergyEfficiency #MaritimeInnovation #DataDriven Simon Johannsson | Trym Edvardsson

Celebrating World Maritime Day - Navigating the Future with Safety First! ⚓️🌊🚢 🌎 The FEEDERDOCK 🚢 Revolutionary feeder concept for safe installation of offshore wind turbines. 🌊 In a new consortium, ONP Management, RRI and Tractebel Overdick have jointly developed #FEEDERDOCK to make the installation of offshore wind turbines safer. 🔗 What differentiates the FEEDERDOCK from other feeder concepts? Instead of transfering turbine components under difficult wind and wave conditions onto the installation vessel, the purpose build feeder vessels are docking into the U-shaped hull of the jack-up vessel FEEDERDOCK and are lifted out of the water together with it as a single unit. FEEDERDOCK is equipped with a 3,200t crane that can also install future generations of foundations and turbines (up >25 MW). There is no need to handle components at sea, nor does the jack-up vessel commute between the port and the construction site. This increases safety as well as the productivity of the installation and optimizes the costs of transport logistics. 🌐 Advantages of the feeder concept: 1. Continuous installation process: By using FEEDERDOCK, the offshore installation of the turbines can now be carried out seamlessly, i.e. without constant interruptions due to the otherwise necessary transport with the installation vessel. Continuous transport to the offshore construction site is now carried out by the feeder vessels. 2. Lower costs: The high daily rates of the installation vessels apply equally during transit to the port, loading and return to the construction site. With more cost-effective feeder vessels, logistics costs are significantly reduced. 3. Increased productivity: The greater the distance of the projects from the coast, the more significant the efficiency gain. FEEDERDOCK increases productivity in the construction of offshore wind farms by up to 30%. 4. Reducing limitations: Feeder vessels are subject to lower fairway restrictions (i.e. water depths, passage widths, ship encounters,...) and also expand the possibility of using ports that cannot be accessed by the large jack-up vessels themselves. 🌎 Safe solutions for shipping, offshore installation and the success of the energy transition!
