As Magdalena Krukowska writes in the newest Forbes Polska: 65% of respondents (...) are willing to change their purchasing patterns to make better choices for the Planet. Yet, the Kantar Sustainability Sector Index indicates a significant gap between declarations and actual environmental actions in 2022, with a staggering 97% versus 9%, highlighting the difference between intentions and consistent implementation. Is the responsibility solely on end-users? Absolutely not. It lies with the companies introducing products to the market. These companies can achieve their circularity goals through partnerships with innovative startups like EcoBean and Rebread, or Cyrkl. This is why apart from making an impact separately, we have entered a consortium #Food2Good supported by the University of Warsaw, aiming to unlock the potential of spent coffee grounds and surplus bread, creating a unique probiotic drink with a coffee twist. Reflecting on a Dynamic 2023 at EcoBean! 🌍 What a journey it has been, filled with remarkable milestones and growth! 📈 🌐 Team Expansion: Successfully expanded our #team by almost 50%, accelerating our operations and enabling work on a larger scale. In recognition of their exceptional dedication, the team received #ESOPs, turning them into EcoBean #shareholders. 🔬 State-of-the-Art Laboratory: Launched our modern #laboratory in Nadarzyn, equipped with cutting-edge technology for more advanced and, importantly, repeatable research. 👥 Leadership Transition: Co-founder Kacper Kossowski resigned from his role as CEO of Julius Meinl Polska, to fully focus on EcoBean's development. 🌍 EcoBean Technology Center (ETC) Kickoff: Embarked on the groundbreaking construction of the ETC - our inaugural biorefinery for full valorization of coffee waste. Secured land, collaborated with Blue Projects for the conceptual project, and advanced environmental approvals. 💰 We’ve been qualified for the European Funds for Modern Economy (FENG) program, to support us with significant funding of up to €7 million for the construction of ETC. 🚀 Client Acquisition: Welcomed new clients committed to a more circular approach alongside us. 🤝 Advisory Boards: Established both an #AdvisoryBoard with market experts guiding us through opportunities and challenges, and a #ScientificBoard supporting us with knowledge and experience in our dynamic product development. 🌿 Low Carbon Footprint Confirmation: Together with Bureau Veritas Polska, we calculated the CO2e of our chemicals, confirming their decarbonization potential for industries using our coffee oil, antioxidants, lignin, PLA, or protein additives. 🌱 Core Values: Developed core #values that will serve as the foundation for our ongoing development. 🏆 Awards: Recognized with prestigious awards including Zielone Orły Rzeczpospolita, ESG Innovator 2023 Polskie Stowarzyszenie ESG, and Mazovia Innovator. 🦄 Impact Recognition: Identified as a potential first #ImpactUnicorn in Poland by the father of sustainable development, Prof. Boleslaw Rok. 🤝 Associations: Joined key industry associations promoting sustainable development, including United Nations Global Compact, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Specialty Coffee Association, and Circular Coffee Community. 🤝 Food 2 Good: Established consortium with Rebread, Cyrkl, and the Uniwersytet Warszawski to develop a circular probiotic drink from surplus bread and coffee grounds. 📰 Media Presence: Featured in various media outlets, including 3 articles in Forbes Polska, Puls Biznesu, and Rzeczpospolita, and participated in significant industry events like Host Milano, Impact CEE, Web Summit, ChangeNOW, and #PreCOP28. 👶 New EcoBean Family Members: Lastly, but not least, two little EcoBeans joined our team, adding extra motivation to fight for a better planet. 🌍🌱 Maciej Majchrowicz Marcin Koziorowski

Our team is still buzzing from the energy and momentum felt at Natural Products Expo West last week! Sustainability was at the center of the event. Countless brands spotlighted their labels (fair trade, ROC, organic, etc.), sustainable packaging, ingredient sourcing, and beyond. In talking with several legacy brands who had been coming to Expo West for 20+ years, they shared tails of the evolution of the industry and this event, and how sustainable brands, once a niche corner of the industry in the early 2000s, have become the headliner. These veterans now view sustainability as a prerequisite to being a winning brand in 2024. With Climate emerging so strongly as a key theme, here are a few of our takeaways: 📈 Positive momentum is building around Regenerative Agriculture.  Across small and big brands, regenerative adoption is growing, and with it a growing need for standardization around what it means to use Regenerative Agriculture practices to produce food. 🤝 Collaboration is everywhere.  Seeing "competitors" swapping insights during panels, complimenting each other's booths during Expo West and celebrating each other's wins was powerful to witness. 🌐 There's a strong desire to close the Climate Intention >> Action gap.  We heard time and again that brands either: 1️⃣ Know they have more work to do but don't know how or 2️⃣ Are already doing the work but need help telling the story and backing up their claims with data It's never been more clear that the time for climate action is now.
