๐ŸŒฑ ๐„๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐–๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง ๐ข๐ง ๐€๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐Ÿ๐จ๐จ๐ (๐„๐–๐€) 2023 ๐๐ข๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐‡๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฌ Last week, I had the privilege of attending the EWA program's pitch day in Norrsken Barcelona, a collaborative effort by EIT Food, Naked Innovations, IRTA, and more. The diversity in projects, both in ambitions and scope, left a lasting impression on me โ€“ a much-needed reflection of the industry's dynamic landscape. ๐ŸŒ Key Discussions: A Glimpse into the Future of Food Innovation ๐Ÿšฎ ๐…๐จ๐จ๐ ๐–๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž Upcycling food waste faces substantial regulatory and quality barriers. Projects like AbonoKm0 focus on converting non-replicable waste into compost, while Madari zumos takes an industrial approach by addressing waste from juice production. ๐Ÿ’Š ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐š๐ง๐ ๐…๐จ๐จ๐ Three projects with different approaches to health: focusing on a key moment with MARIARMONIA and maternity; looking at a key ingredient and working on an alternative with Lฤkล and using big data for consumerโ€™s education during their shopping with GUNDO. ๐Ÿ”ฌ ๐‘&๐ƒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ˆ๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐„๐ฏ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ProPlantae and Protiberia are pioneering new ways to produce aligned with a sustainable vision. Proplantae focuses on alternatives to pesticides, while Protiberia places its bet on insect-based proteins within a circular model. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐ŸŒพ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐†๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ My three favourite projects stand out not for super tech or astronomical ROI, but for the tangible impact they create. Corbe setas de bodega transforms abandoned wine caves into mushroom cultivation rooms, Ca Climent revitalises abandoned land using forgotten crops at the intersection of tradition and modernity, and La Albarda represents a small holistic management project in Teruel. The EWA 2023 Pitch Day featured 10 projects, each presenting a unique vision for the future. From local to global initiatives, and small-scale to large-scale endeavors, it was the perfect blend needed to drive regeneration forward.
