How can we ensure a smooth transition to regenerative agriculture systems while keeping farmers at the centre of the process? 🧑🌾 This is a snapshot of the insightful discussions we had at the Regenerative Agriculture Summit in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. One thing is clear: the transition is complex, but collaboration, data harmonisation, and financing models hold the key to scaling up. 🌽 Here are our top takeaways - 1️⃣ Data and Metrics: Standardised data collection is essential for measuring the impact of regenerative systems across all stakeholders. 2️⃣ Financing: We need cost-sharing mechanisms across the food value chain, and farmers need support to de-risk the transition. 3️⃣ Unified Definition: A common language among stakeholders is vital for a streamlined approach to regenerative agriculture. 4️⃣ Business Cases: Showcase quick wins and innovations to demonstrate immediate benefits and drive adoption for farmers. 5️⃣ Farmer-Centric: The shift must be practical, farmer-led, and tailored to local conditions. The Regenerative Innovation Portfolio seeks to do just that. Our aim is to enable viable short and long-term business models for farmers who want to transition towards regenerative agriculture. As an ecosystem collaboration between EIT Food, Foodvalley NL and Food Innovation Hub Europe initiative of the World Economic Forum, it will help unlock new partnerships across the food and agriculture value chain. 👉 https://bit.ly/3TlEasg A big thank you to the fantastic speakers who shared their insights: Patrick Holden, Lesley Mitchell, Axelle Bodoy, Yanniek Marijn Schoonhoven, Benjamin Duché, Simon Kraemer, Joanna Lawrence, Géraldine BERNARD, Katrina Hayter, Kathryn Miller and Marion Verles. The momentum is undeniable, and it’s just the beginning of this transformative journey. 🙌

The future of Europe’s agrifood system demands bold and collaborative action to ensure a fair and resilient food system.🌍 The cost of inaction—spanning soil degradation to declining yields—threatens both the environment and the competitiveness of our food system. The European Commission has recently published a report underscoring the critical need for systemic reform, including a comprehensive overhaul of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the establishment of a sustainable food systems framework law. In response to the report, which concludes the efforts of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture, EIT Food has issued an open letter to the European Commission, calling for decisive leadership. For seven years, EIT Food has been at the forefront of fostering innovation and building partnerships to drive food system transformation. Now, we call for an invitation to the post-report dialogue and urge the European Commission to leverage EIT Food’s ongoing initiatives to turn the report’s findings into actionable steps. Water is vital for livelihoods, #FoodSecurity, and #ClimateResilience. But challenges like rising food demand and unsustainable agriculture threaten it. On #WorldWaterWeek, let’s remember that what we eat, and how that food is produced, all affect water. We need to stop taking this precious finite resource for granted. 💧🥕 We are proud to have so many innovative members of our community helping to preserve water, such as: 🌌 Finapp – Using cosmic rays to measure water. ☀️ AGUA DE SOL – Turning air into water thanks to the sun. 🚽 TOOPI ORGANICS – Turning human urine into a resource for agriculture. 🛰️ constellr – Using satellite global water monitoring for a growing planet. 🌿 Plantae – Using sensors and precision agriculture to optimise irrigation and crop productivity. 💦 ONDO | Smart Farming Solutions – Offering automated systems for precise irrigation, fertigation, and climate control. How can we support & scale innovations in sustainable water management? 💧🌱 #ImprovingFoodTogether

Female presence in managing Venture Capital Funds in Europe is low, particularly in senior positions, with only 15% of female GPs and over 80% of investment committees being all male. 🚫👩💼 These numbers need to change. Diverse teams make better investment decisions. 💪💡 So, how can we tackle this? 1️⃣ Empowering women to start a career in venture investment. 2️⃣ Connecting investors with a diverse pool of talented women who will bring fresh perspectives to their teams. At EIT, we're committed to changing this narrative. That's why we launched the Women2Invest initiative as part of the Supernovas programme, aiming to make the entrepreneurship ecosystem more gender-balanced. 🌟 Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dcz4WSuG #ImprovingFoodTogether #FutureOfFood #WomenEqualityDay

For millennia, we lived in harmony with nature. But modern agriculture is destroying the very habitat we depend on. 🌍 Intensive farming releases 30% of all greenhouse gases and erodes 24 billion tones of topsoil every year. 🚜 That is an area the size of Greece! But what if the solution lay right beneath our feet? 🌱 #RegenerativeAgriculture restores the natural rhythm of our ecosystem, reviving landscapes for generations to come. 🌿 By working with nature, we can produce more nutritious food, more resilient crops, and less wasted water. 🥕 Regenerative farming is a profitable, sustainable system that makes sense for farmers and food-lovers alike. 🍏 We need to enable farmers and producers to lead the transition to regenerative agriculture, and we are working with the #agrifood community to help them develop their skills and test new technologies. 🛰️ 👉 https://lnkd.in/dw4eGRsX What other regenerative characters would you add to the list? #ImprovingFoodTogether #FutureOfFood #SustainableFood

By 2030, one in six people worldwide will be aged 60 years or over, increasing from 1 billion in 2020 to 1.4 billion. By 2050, this number is expected to double to 2.1 billion, with the number of people aged 80 and older tripling to 426 million. 🌍 Living older and healthier is a privilege to which all human beings should have access; nevertheless, it’s out of reach to the vast majority. How can we identify gaps, barriers, and opportunities for maintaining the health and well-being of the ageing population? 🔍 We launched our Healthy Ageing Think & Do Tank to focus on prevention through food, aligned with our first mission: Healthier Lives through Food. 🌱 The Healthy Ageing Think & Do Tank brings together strategic and delivery partners from across Europe to foster effective collaboration, knowledge sharing, and impactful initiatives that accelerate #FoodSystem transformation to promote #HealthyAgeing. It’s a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and action towards improving key areas such as malnutrition, gut microbiome, personalised nutrition, immunity enhancement, women’s health, and mental health. 🌟 “We want to contribute to creating opportunities to live long and healthy and extending wellbeing for all ages, regardless of date of birth," says Begoña Pérez Villarreal, Director EIT Food South Region.
