"We understand that climate impacts on the region’s natural biodiversity may decrease access to traditional foods in native populations. We have seen in our region and beyond and certainly in the central valley that extreme climate events can put agricultural workers at risk and affect food access by impacting food related services, equipment and goods delivery.” -Ali Frazzini from the LA County Chief Sustainability Office. Thank you to everyone who joined our second LA Foodscapes event! Here is the full recap of our LA Foodscapes: Our Future Food Ecosystems and Climate. We're looking forward to convening everyone again in September to continue very critical conversations around food equity. Through high-impact advocacy, we are building a food system for animals, people, and our planet. Today’s heavily consolidated food systems place most power in the hands of multi-billion dollar corporations while working for nearly no one else. Over 99 percent of animals farmed in the U.S. are confined to factory farms that cause immense animal suffering, exploit workers, harm local communities, and drive widespread environmental devastation. At Farm Sanctuary, we know that there’s a better way to nourish each other. That’s why we are working across movements to build the good: equitable and sustainable food systems that benefit all of us: animals, people, and our planet. As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on all that we’ve accomplished together in 2023 and share the good moments.

Our food system is broken and we need new solutions to help fix it. Instead of putting more pressure on farmers, we're changing the narrative. 🗝️ Farmers already hold many of the answers the industry is looking for. I am thrilled to be joined by Andrew Court, Anna Jackson, Ben Williams, Chris Manley, Chris Woodhead, Flavian Obiero and Jack Pearce who are the next generation of farmers who recognise that whilst farming faces huge challenges with climate change and unfairness in the supply chain, they are also very much part of the solution to help fix the food system. Our new Farmer Advisory Board is a positive and constructive space giving both businesses and farmers the chance to learn from each other to scale the necessary changes 🚜 These meetings will explore: → Shared challenges around the climate issues affecting farming operations → Food security and supply chain resilience → Genuine open dialogue and collaboration on how to unlock current barriers Access to the Farmers Advisory Board is a unique business membership benefit for Future Food Movement and Cool Farm Alliance members Join us: https://lnkd.in/e6dHDeaZ #EveryJobIsAClimate #OurGeneration #OurSolution #FutureFoodMovement #ClimateAction #FoodIndustry #FarmerAdvisoryBoard #CoolFarmAlliance

How can we unlock food systems transformation to nourish all people and regenerate the planet? 🍃 The Conscious Food Systems Alliance Systems Alliance (CoFSA), convened by UNDP, is a movement of food, agriculture, and consciousness practitioners united around a common goal: to support people from across food and agriculture systems to cultivate the inner capacities that activate systemic change and regeneration. CoFSA brings together a growing community of practitioners, exploring pathways toward conscious food systems through practices that foster awareness, connection, and creativity. “The time has come to build the inner foundations of sustainable food systems”, says Christine Wamsler, professor at Land University, Sweden. The James Beard Foundation, in collaboration with the Global Food Institute at the George Washington University, shared “The Climate Reality for Independent Restaurants: A Deep Dive into the Supply Chain and New Economic Realities” on February 16. This report focuses on the economic impacts of climate change on independent restaurants. Field Guide Inc. is friends to many restauranteurs, and we share in JBF’s concern for climate change's present and yet-to-be-seen impacts. “To paraphrase Brillat-Savarin, the future of our planet will depend on how we feed ourselves. This report underscores the magnitude of that challenge. But! It also points to solutions and hope. Adopting more sustainable farming practices, protecting our nation’s farms and farm workers, and strengthening our local and regional food systems—this is how we build resilience, one plate of food at a time.” - James Beard Award Winner José Andrés Read the full report below.
