UK-Be Maritime Innovation Day Navigating the future of port operations requires a wave of talent equipped with new skills, amidst a landscape where skilled labor is too scarce to meet the increasingly complexed requirements for port operations. The industry must address this skill shortage head-on, enhancing role attractiveness to entice new talent into the industry. To explore these critical issues, the Maritime Innovation event will convene experts from both the UK and Belgian side. It aims to strengthen partnerships and alliances to shape policy and promote the advancement of emerging technologies. To showcase the innovation in the UK on this topic, 8 UK Companies will be presenting their solutions in front of an audience of Belgian stakeholders. 📍 Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Belgium 🗓 4 March 2024

Interesting panel discussion on the role of ports as Energy Hubs and facilitators of multimodality, through digitization and the promotion of Green Shipping Corridors. These are precisely the pillars of the strategic plan of the Puerto de Huelva. We will continue to be part of the discussions at this great European event, Connecting Europe Days, which is taking place in Brussels.

📣 #UICrail was in Korea last week for several events, notably its 36th Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, the 22nd UIC Asia-Pacific Management Committee (APMC), the UIC - KORAIL Workshop on Best Practices of High-Speed Line Operation in Asia-Pacific, and the first Scientific Committee of the UIC High-Speed Congress planned to be held in Beijing in 2025. ➡️ All these meetings were organised at the invitation of KORAIL as part of the celebrations for the 20th #anniversary of the HSR in Korea, bringing together UIC members from the Asia Pacific region as well as from Europe and the USA. ➡️ In addition to the warm welcome, it is worth noting the special attention given by Korail to UIC members and the interest in the technical and cultural visits. In his report, UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee emphasised the importance of UIC's work on #standardisation with the support of the region, and the strong #commitment of regional members to develop regional projects. Key messages delivered by UIC APRA Chairman HAN Moon Hee, and UIC Director General François DAVENNE, also highlighted the global challenges and opportunities in rail transport, focusing on decarbonisation, digitalisation, and safety culture. ➡️ The project activities of APRA were presented by Philippe Lorand, Coordinator of the UIC Asia-Pacific region. 🚄 The workshop on High-Speed Line Operation in the Asia-Pacific region tied in with the 20-year anniversary of high-speed lines in Korea. Key messages were delivered by Eungdae Lee, Deputy Director, International Cooperation Department, KORAIL Bertrand MINARY, UIC Passenger Director, Coordinator of the UIC Middle-East & Latin America regions. The workshop was very enriching, both in terms of the topics covered and the cross-discussions between Asia, Europe, and other regions. Baoshi HUO, Chair, UIC Intercity & High-Speed Committee and Director of the Science Technical and IT Application Department of Chinese Railways (CR) introduced the worldwide status and trends for HSL development. 🙌 The meetings were testament to the importance of #collaboration and shared #development within the UIC APRA region. #governance #HighSpeed #Cooperation #Innovation #Passenger

Only a few days to the opening of our our next special exhibition: 200 years of Reederei F. Laeisz On deck2 of the museum from March the 21st to September the 15th 2024. It all began in Hamburg in 1824 with a business selling top hats. Within a few decades, this became one of the most important and today oldest shipping companies in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. The House of F. Laeisz soon maintained shipping connections all over the world and was involved in the founding of other well-known shipping companies, including Hamburg Süd and Hapag. The company became well known for its Flying-P-Liners, fast sailing ships that were famous and admired until the 1930s, especially on the wheat voyage to Australia and the route around Cape Horn to the west coast of South America. Later, the shipping company entered the trade in bananas and other refrigerated cargoes. Today, F. Laeisz is fully focussed on the future. Large car ferries, bulkers and gas tankers characterise the fleet. Liquefied gas transport is becoming increasingly important, as are modern dual-fuel drives and the reduction of CO2 emissions for new generations of ships. The company is certain that the future will belong to chemicals such as green methanol and green ammonia as fuels for large ocean-going vessels. #maritime #history #museum #hamburg

It’s Day 10 of Consulate General of Canada in Chicago | Le Consulat général du Canada à Chicago ’s 12 Days of Canadian Innovation and we are going to the beach! The Government of Canada has funded independent Global Innovation Clusters to drive creativity in Canada’s most promising industries. The Ocean Cluster is growing the ocean economy by harnessing emerging technologies that digitize and optimise marine operations and increase marine safety. This is a no-brainer for a country that has THREE ocean coasts (Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic).

I had goosebumps standing there yesterday! In front of pictures of our new Aurora Class vessels already in the water in China ready for global sailing, it almost feels surreal. But it is actually happening. Right now. No futuristic vision. No hypothetical project. No pledge for what we must do in the future. The first Aurora Class vessel, the largest and most environmentally friendly PCTC ever built, will be in commercial operations in only a few months. Today I had the pleasure of speaking about how we got here. And how we got here so fast. Faster than we ever could imagine. How was that possible? Through collaboration. Cross-border collaboration. Through pooling highly technical and ambitious partners Pollution doesn’t care about borders. And it certainly doesn’t care about cultural differences. Or any other differences for that matter. The Aurora Class project is a clear example on how we can embrace the differences to everyone's advantage. Explore them to change the future At Höegh Autoliners, we are lucky to have a very close collaboration – and a great relationship - with China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI). Without them, the Aurora Class would have been what several people deemed it in 2021: Impossible. Together we are making the impossible possible. It's been four years since I first spoke to Höegh Autoliners’ CEO Andreas Enger about building the vessels of the future. And now the future is here. Happening as I'm on stage speaking about it. Sailing for sustainability, transforming our industry. Making deep-sea transportation sustainable and net zero. The Aurora Class project is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite for a common cause. Global collaboration is crucial for progress. The world needs to accelerate the green transition. And together with the rest of the world and our highly skilled Chinese partners we are shaping the future of maritime decarbonization and a net zero future. This was, in short what I said on stage today at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China’s seminar "Norway and China: Together for a Greener Future". Thank you for providing us with a stage where we can showcase our green collaboration! #SailingForSustainability #Collaboration #CrossBorders #HöeghAutoliners
