We are excited to share that Claywood Construction has been appointed by Calder Valley Community Land Trust to deliver energy effiency upgrades and building fabric enhancements at the historic Grade II Listed Building known as Fielden Hall in Todmorden. The project will include a range of improvements, such as roof and external wall repairs, the installation of specialist secondary glazing for the iconic period windows, a complete upgrade to air source heating, and the addition of solar PV and energy-efficient LED lighting. We're proud to be part of preserving this landmark while enhancing its sustainability for the future. Andrew’s right. In the battle against climate breakdown decarbonising the built environment (which is responsible for 40 per cent of global carbon emissions) is crucial. Substituting materials which have high levels of embodied carbon eg concrete, for nature based sustainable materials such as timber which have low embodied carbon is a quick and easy climate win. We will need 50 per cent nature based construction materials including insulation by 2040 and 75 per cent minimum by 2050.

Warning: Not a Research Article Constructing a hybrid mass timber high-rise is now nearly as cost-effective as constructing a comparable concrete tower, states a study co-authored by PCL Construction, DCI Engineers, and Weber Thompson. This Hybrid Tall Timber: Mass Timber Residential High-Rise Study highlights the potential of mass timber to expand residential space in densely populated urban areas. The study suggests that mass timber construction could pave way for developing more buildings in the intermediate tower height range.  Intermediate high-rise towers are said to be often not built to their full potential due to cost and code constraints. The study indicates that mass timber, a renewable material made from fast-growing lumber, could be more economical under certain conditions.  https://lnkd.in/gCS_UxG4
