When we faced the workforce reduction at Eptura, it was a really difficult time for all of us. I didn’t always have the answers, and the team often came to me looking for clarity, comfort, or just someone to talk to. Even though I didn’t have a clear picture of what was ahead, I tried to help them the best I could. We focused on being there for each other and supporting one another through the uncertainty. Some days were hard, but we kept pushing forward together. What got us through were a few simple things: Being Honest: I was open about what I knew, and I didn’t hide when I didn’t have all the answers. We leaned into honesty, even when it was tough. Celebrating Together: We found reasons to celebrate, no matter how small. Each win reminded us that we were still moving forward. Listening: I made it a point to really listen when someone came to me. Sometimes they didn’t need solutions—they just needed to be heard and understood. What mattered most was showing love and care for the people around me. How do we shape our company culture? At Belonio we have had an amazing group work to reflect and co-create our company culture together. Thanks to Nina Pry for the inspiring talk and analoge of the developmental stages of a butterfly 😍👏 this give a great Tool for our daily culture: ✨️ in which state are you right now? ✨️ what is the next stage and what developmental pain might there be? another inspiring Tool was the "wine or blue collar" question: do you need... 🍷a Glas of wine conversation where you just want to be listened to? OR 🙋♂️ a blue collar conversation where you want ideas and a collaborative Problem solving conversation? But most importantly: we needed to reflect and shape our culture together 💖 each Team had a different approach, and all of them where so valuable to create a full picture. The team I was part of created the Show "Barrrrbara am Morgen" (yes you need to Pronounce the r like this 😂) - the Show with Real stories and emotions. A Real example of lived culture, that put us to tears as the stories where so moving 🥹💖 Stories of 💖 instant support in stressful situations 💖 for great compassion in personal difficult times 💖 for New chances given for career changers of any age and cultural background 💖 and admiration for a company culture that has it's heart at the right place The other teams did an amazing Job in defining the details with examples of our core values, but also challenging them and reflecting critically what is still actual and what needed to change. 🐋 Team Focus at VHV: Inspired by Killer Whales Last month, during our quarterly State of the Company address, we reflected on where we've been, where we are, and where we're going. These meetings bring all of our employee-owners together to align on our shared mission and values—including how we conduct ourselves as a team. To emphasize the power of teamwork, I shared an analogy about killer whales. These incredible creatures use highly intelligent pack hunting strategies to work together, divide labor, and communicate effectively to achieve their goal: the crab eater seal. Similarly, at VHV, our team focus enables us to achieve our own ambitious goals—like growing ESOP shares, fostering a great culture, increasing profit sharing, providing wage increases, and supporting career advancement. The following week, I found a toy crab-eater seal placed on my desk by one of our team members. It was a fun and unexpected reminder to keep our eyes on the prize! Just like the killer whales, we recognize that our collective strength and expertise far exceed the sum of our individual capabilities.
