🌊𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐲𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝: 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 & 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞, 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐨! 🌬️ As part of Equinor's Hywind Scotland Heavy Maintenance programme, the first of the five floating turbines (HS2) undergoing maintenance has been successfully repaired, towed back to site, and reconnected on the 15th of July 2024. Sea Impact analyzed that turbine HS2 was towed to port mid-May by three Anchor-Handling Tug Vessels and remained moored at Wergeland Group's Base in Norway for a total of 51 days for repairs. Satellite images showed that the unit has had the nacelle and blades down during the Port-stay. HS3 & HS5 are currently still moored in Port and undergoing repairs, while HS4 just arrived in Port after being towed end of last week. The floating project features five 6MW machines from Siemens Gamesa, mounted on spar floaters. Last year witnessed a flurry of activity in the offshore wind sector, a snapshot of the action: 🗓️ Global Activity: ▪ Offshore wind installation activities spanned twelve projects across Europe, Asia, and North America. 🚢 New-Built Vessels: ▪ 2023 marked the inaugural installation of three new-built vessels: Jan De Nul Group’s Les Alizes, Seaway7’s Alfa Lift, and CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering’s Green Jade. 🏗️ Other Highlights: ▪ Seaway7 sold Seaway Yudin marking the end of the era for the vessel in offshore wind ▪ Van Oord’s Svanen is on the other hand seeing a crane upgrade to handle the next generation of monopiles ▪ Two semi-submersible crane vessels were highly active in offshore wind (Saipem 7000 and Heerema Marine Contractors' Thialf) Note: This overview focuses on heavy lift vessels involved with offshore wind installation in 2023. //ARCADIS OST 1// At Barge Master, we're proud to have played a supporting role in Heerema Marine Contractors' recent groundbreaking project— Arcadis Ost 1, the first floating offshore wind park installation using the impressive SSCV Thialf. Our team at Barge Master contributed by delivering two motion-compensated gangways crucial for accessing the turbines. Since the main deck of the Thialf was too high for the gangways to access the TP’s, two outriggers needed to be made at the machine deck on both sides of the vessel. Our gangways, equipped with a tipladder, provided a safe and effective solution, ensuring seamless access to the narrow spaces over the turbine railings. “Barge master provided us with the unique ability to approach the WTG under any heading, allowing us to maximize the use of Thialf during the WTG installation.” Thijs Postma, Project Manager at Heerema contributes. Arcadis Ost 1 is the first wind park in the world that is installed using a purely floating installation method, called the Rotor Nacelle Assembly (NRA) method, developed by Heerema, Vestas and Parkwind. The park consists of 27 Vestas 9.5 MW turbines, located in the German part of the Baltic Sea. The park supplies enough green energy to power the equivalent of 290,000 households. ZITON A/S remained on top! With 172 O&M jack-up interventions during 2023, ZITON A/S secured another year as the vessel company with the highest number of jack-up interventions ahead of MPI Offshore.   Last year the industry saw a total of 379 O&M jack-up interventions. Eight different vessel companies were active in the market with ZITON A/S holding an impressive market share of 45% between their four dedicated O&M vessels (soon to five). Through the MPI Offshore brand Van Oord operate two jack-up vessels that carried out a combined 70 jack-up interventions. Their jack-up vessel MPI Adventure carried out a blade repair campaign at Ørsted’s Burbo Bank Extension and Walney Extension for a total 39 jack-up intervention. Both wind farms feature the Vestas V164-8 MW turbines. ATHELEON were the third most active with 46 jack-up interventions. Their two vessels Wind Lift 1 and Thor have been fully focused on O&M tasks working on four different German wind farms. Note: the graph excludes activities in China. Sea Impact analyzed that turbine HS4 has been towed to port on the 19th of July by three Anchor-Handling Tug Vessels and remained moored at Wergeland Group's Base in Norway for a total of 43 days for repairs. HS2, HS3, HS5 and HS4 are now fully reconnected on site and spinning, while HS1 still remains moored in Norway for repairs and is expected to be towed back soon. The floating project features five 6MW machines from Siemens Gamesa, mounted on spar floaters.
