Hydrogen fuel cells are really making waves in the aviation space, and the investment we’re seeing is off the charts. 📈 In 2024 alone, over $1.4 billion has been pumped into 23+ companies working on hydrogen tech across multiple sectors. Take ZeroAvia, for example - they’ve just extended their Series C to $150 million and are making huge progress with hydrogen-electric powertrains for zero-emission aviation. Meanwhile, companies like LONGi Hydrogen in China and Hysata in Australia are leading the way in electrolyser development, a key step in producing clean hydrogen fuel. 💧 It hasn’t been an easy road for everyone - Hyzon Motors and Universal Hydrogen have had their challenges. 📍 Liverpool ULEMCo Ltd has raised over £5m in a funding round led by Mercia Ventures. ULEMCo’s ‘dual fuel solution’ (H2CED) enables heavy duty vehicles to run off hydrogen but continue to use diesel where necessary. It allows operators to switch to cleaner fuel and significantly reduce their carbon emissions without having to replace their existing fleet. The new funding will enable the company to develop new products in hydrogen dual fuel, fuel cell and zero-carbon emission combustion, and expects to create around 100 new jobs across the UK. Mercia Ventures was investing from its own funds and the first Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, and backed by existing investors Equity Gap, the North West Fund and Scottish Enterprise. "HysetCo has secured a financing round of almost €200m ($217m) to accelerate the decarbonisation of urban transport. Hy24 led the financing round and will now join Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, Toyota France and Kouros as a majority shareholder of HysetCo. The financing was also backed by RAISE Impact and Eiffel Investment Group. HysetCo is advancing its mobility as a service (MaaS) offering, allowing customers to have a single, integrated supplier and 'facilitate a system-wide transition to hydrogen'.
