Some key takeaways: ● Has experience across many aspects of digital marketing including oversight of retail eCommerce channel operations from customer acquisition to fulfillment. ● Through refinement of high-volume PPC campaigns and deep Search Engine Optimization, he achieved substantial increases in page views and in organic traffic in his previous job. ● He also had some experience integrating and managing email marketing and CRM programs with segmented campaigns, and creating promotional calendars in coordination with retail store managers. ● Was a bit too junior for the role, but that was OK. Story time: I saw the future of the DTC landscape. Here's what happened… Just kidding. No technology for time hopping yet… (or that we know of) But let me tell you my top 4 predictions for next year on what the DTC landscape is going to look like: 1/ International is going to be HUGE Brands that tap into Canada, UK, Europe, LATAM are going to have a first-mover advantage big-time. Especially for DTC brands who can figure it out… How so? -> Cheaper to run ads -> Localized experience -> Customers already search 2/ Founder brand on LinkedIn to open up retail store opportunities TikTok and socials with founder-led content will garner an audience. This will drive new revenue. Facebook ads are silent killers right now though -> MDS is big for this -> Ran from Obvi is also big for this Key then is to cultivate community. Engage to open up. And as I always say and do, build in public. 3/ Hiring head of Ops Almost every DTC brand sucks at ops (they are heavily sales and marketing lead motions). Important to improve margins, build systems and gain momentum… Focusing on systems, ops, profitability & logistics. 4/ OPS Agencies I even think there will be just ops agencies next year entering the market. Yes, an agency to just handle systems inventory, CS, automation for Amazon, Shopify. I’m actually super bullish on this — Anything I missed? Let me know in the comments below!

Because the industry, at the advent of Retail Media has changed so drastically, years of experience matter less. Take these two sample candidates when hiring for a Retail Media Lead: 1️⃣ Candidate 1: - 5 years of Retail Media Experience - 20 years of shopper marketing experience - Salary Expectation: $250k 2️⃣ Candidate 2: - 5 Years of Retail Media Experience - 0 Years Shopper Marketing Experience - Salary Expectation: $75k 😬 While I mean no offense to those who have deep experience in commerce and the retail world, you can see that there is a clear advantage for newcomers to the space. 😮 For an agency or brand looking to fill a role, they can do so with a seasoned leader who only at the tail end of their career learned retail media, or a candidate who's entire professional career has been focused on Retail Media. 😁 There are certainly companies who need leaders and not just expertise, but for an industry so new, we are short on knowledge, and deep on experience in other spaces. 💲 While every situation is different, you can see the appeal of a newer talent to the space, simply based on cost. #ecommerce #retailmedia #shoppermarketing
