A groundbreaking practical project with a wide circle of exemplary contributors …… well worth following progress and outputs for the housing sector to follow ……. ✅
We have come a phenomenonal way in our first year as Transforming Homes Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) #greentransitionecosystem. Our co-designed research is exploring the use of biobased materials with low carbon technologies whilst improving design to transform existing homes for current and #futuregenerations. Discoveries from across our #interdisciplinary research activities are being used to inform decision making and develop processes that aim to be transferable to homes across the UK and beyond. An exciting range of outputs are being developed that we very much hope will inform and inspire change across the housing sector including residents and communities. Buro Happold helped the University of Birmingham to build a masterplan framework that is fully aligned with the institution’s key development principles and its routemap to net zero carbon. Our sustainability experts conducted a broad assessment of the University’s assets, using this to inform development of the University’s net zero carbon strategy and implementation plan. The project has now moved into the critical next phase: the transformation of the historic Aston Webb building into a vibrant student precinct that mixes cutting edge teaching, informal learning and dining, designed to bring the campus community together in human-scaled, light filled and sensitively crafted spaces.
