The Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA) was formally launched in September 2023 to unite like-minded global partners in a collective effort to prime Asia as a force for good – driving nature-based solutions and climate action, advancing public and global health, and promoting holistic and inclusive education for marginalised groups.    The Philanthropy Asia Summit (PAS) is PAA’s flagship platform. PAS 2024 was our largest and most ambitious to date, with nearly 400 global attendees over four days. This year’s conference focused on the vital role of multi-sector partnerships and the importance of philanthropists in mobilising private sector investment and government action. Partner events by PAA’s members and partners focused on climate, health, and education, featuring robust discussions on catalysing positive impact across the capital spectrum. The week culminated in impact journeys by Dalio Philanthropies aboard the OceanXplorer and Sembcorp Industries Ltd to the Sembcorp Tengeh Floating Solar Farm.     I am pleased to share the PAS 2024 Insights Report by the Philanthropy Asia Alliance and Temasek Trust. After Waitangi Day yesterday, it's the first "proper" working day here in Aotearoa New Zealand after the extended summer break! As always, I'm feeling deeply privileged for my daily conversations with #civilsociety leaders and #fundraising practitioners around the world, navigating systems that are balanced against them, and seeking new ways to resource their causes within their own #ecosystem, building #partnerships that are grounded in solidarity and shared purpose. This morning's session was about creating and holding space for new and challenging conversations about navigating the difficult reality of high-value fundraising across #LatinAmerica hosted by the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and Carolina Turriago Borrero 🙏🏼 with participants from across the continent. Together, we explored how to navigate corporate partnerships beyond the usual extractive suspects, the temptation from mythical promises of overseas funding, the dishonesty within "open" calls for institutional grants that are already allocated, we also talked about how relatively easy my fundraising has been as a White European man ... ... and as always we keep coming back to the same place in fundraising - how do causes seeking funding navigate the imbalances of power, colonialism, capitalism, white male supremacy? How do we challenge the dominant global orthodoxy of fundraising that has been built upon foundations and experiences in North America and Europe, then "ego-exported" (without reflection of culture and context) that makes it irrelevant and even harmful across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America? And, of course, what practical tools and tactics and relevant examples help navigate as a group towards alternative funding sources, beyond technical resource mobilisation orthodoxy? This afternoon, we'll be exploring how to start and sustain a high-value fundraising programme in #Lao, with Keoamphone Souvannaphoum and CARE! It's great to be back and having real, difficult, but important conversations about navigating the world of funding for important and impactful causes, communities, and change. #globalfundraising

Numbers! A project's success lies in its numbers, and Sisters' Blended Value Project (#SBVP) is no exception. #SBVP has made remarkable strides in leveraging data to achieve its ambitious targets. Originally aiming to train #600sisters from over #40congregations across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia, SBVP has exceeded expectations, successfully training #690sisters so far. The project has also facilitated extensive collaborative networks by hosting numerous webinars and conferences, providing sisters with invaluable opportunities and knowledge sharing. SBVP is on track to produce #40research outputs, including #13journal papers, #13case studies, and #14white papers. These contributions will significantly enrich the repository of knowledge and best practices. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to innovation, SBVP´s ´pillar four aims to establish an incubation centre focused on financial inclusion. Under this pillar, #61congregations from the four countries have been awarded seed grants to bolster their social enterprises. Through meticulous data collection and analysis, #SBVP has effectively tracked progress and adjusted strategies not only to meet but exceed its goals. Data-driven insights have been crucial in scaling initiatives, optimizing resource allocation, ensuring the success of strategic objectives, and laying a solid foundation for the future. The numbers speak for themselves, but our unwavering dedication to transforming social ministries into sustainable social enterprises remains steadfast. I’m super excited to handover to Chrissy Cattle! There is nothing more exciting as a founding CEO than knowing that the time has come to pass on the baton. It takes an enormous amount of energy to carry a cause for a decade but the beautiful thing about causes is that they are so much bigger than any of us. Despite many reasons for global pessimism, the menstrual movement has never been stronger and has achieved an astounding level and scale of system change over the last ten years. In the UK, a government that quibbles over free school meals does not question the right to free period products in schools. In Uganda, where gender-based rights are under threat, the government has a standalone menstrual health strategy. In many ways, the critical arguments have been won. Now, my conversations with politicians are about how to get policies working rather than whether or not period equity matters. They are about the scale and scope of investment rather than a debate about whether the problem exists. As an organisation committed to long-term social norms and systems change, Irise has played a critical role in building a strong and resilient ecosystem for period equality. In particular, systems change requires pressure on many fronts rather than a simplistic focus on a single level of change. Irise has helped to ensure diverse, cross-sector influencing, maintaining a balanced agenda rather than one overly dominated by one perspective or approach. As Irise and the menstrual movement enter a new phase on the journey for #MenstrualJusticeForAll, I will be cheering my incredible colleagues every step of the way. If there is one thing that the last decade has taught me, it’s that we can change the status quo when we come together.

The first half of year 2024 was truly remarkable, and I take immense pride in all that I have accomplished. From serving as a UNA delegate at biggest global Policy-making body, CSW68 at the United Nations to advocating for global health at the U.S. Congress, from working with the global community and international organizations in Europe and North America on important world issues to participating in key national campaigns, from attending global summits at the United Nations to traveling the world to assist underserved communities, each experience has been profoundly impactful. A few months ago, what was merely a dream has now become a reality. Starting a non-profit organization, @United Voices For Global Impact, UVGI was not an easy task, but it has been an enjoyable and fulfilling journey. My vision for this organization extends far beyond local impacts; it aims to go international and ensure that no one is left behind. I am very pleased with the achievements we have made in such a short period of time. We will continue to strive for excellence and make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and communities around the world. I like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team members and supporters. Your passion, hard work, and unwavering belief in our mission have made this dream a reality. The second launch at #PBCForum2024 is a new report that will be released in October 2024. Asia is home to more billionaires than anywhere else in the world, yet, as highlighted in the CAPS Doing Good Index, over 185 million people live on less than US$2.15 a day. The Bridgespan Group Southeast Asia’s latest report, in collaboration with the Institute of Philanthropy, will examine the growth of institutional giving in the region compared to other parts of the globe. The report identifies five high-impact practices that lead to lasting results in philanthropy.
