About us

Jhpiego is a nonprofit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative health care solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts and local communities, we build health providers’ skills, and develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families. Our aim is revolutionizing health care for the planet’s most disadvantaged people. Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University Affiliate, translates decades of program experience and in-depth technical knowledge into moments of care that can mean the difference between life and death for women and families. The moment a woman gives birth; the moment a midwife helps a newborn to breath; the moment a nurse screens for cervical cancer with a simple vinegar swab; the moment a community health worker tests a man for HIV and reports he is HIV free. By embedding the know-how and skills into everyday practice, we are able to increase access to quality health services and create a healthier future for generations to come. Access to lifesaving health care for all people, whoever they are, wherever they live, that’s our mission. Jhpiego saves lives, improves health, transforms futures.

For Dr. Mary Rose Giattas, eliminating cervical cancer in Tanzania is personal. At the age of 13, Dr. Giattas lost her mother, who was only 42 at the time, to breast cancer. Since then, she has been determined to improve women’s health and ensure that no child loses a parent due to a preventable disease. In Tanzania, cervical cancer is the leading cause of death for women however, it can be prevented through vaccinating young girls against HPV. Country Director Jhpiego Pakistan

I just wrapped up an incredible week at the Country Leads Meeting from October 21-25, 2024 at both our Jhpiego DC and Baltimore offices, and wow, what a whirlwind of experiences and inspiration! From the get-go, we kicked things off with some fascinating leadership journeys shared by our fraternity of Country Directors across Jhpiego. Hearing their stories was not just enlightening but also energizing! One of my favorite sessions was all about creating and maintaining an ethical workplace—such a crucial topic in today’s world. We even dove into a fun problem-solving workshop that had us thinking on our feet! The Finance and Country Director checklist was another gem, equipping us with practical tools to tackle our daily challenges. Day two was packed! We explored country risk assessments, crisis management, and even nailed down best practices for hiring top-notch candidates. The knowledge management session reminded us that staying adaptable is key to our success. Midweek, we shifted gears into effective communication strategies, focusing on public speaking (hello, nerves!), and then headed into a productive USAID meeting that sparked some exciting ideas about health initiatives. On the fourth day, we looked at compliance issues, including data compliance, which, trust me, is more fascinating than it sounds! And the sessions on supply chain management? So practical and eye-opening! We wrapped up on Friday with advanced problem-solving techniques, leadership insights, and tips on nurturing leadership in others. For me, the best experience was when Debora Bossemeyer graciousely invited us to her home for a lovely dinner where we all sat down and enjoyed each other's company. Overall, it was a week filled with learning, laughter, and connection. I left feeling motivated and ready to take on new challenges! What a fantastic experience! In India, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women with more than 90,000 women dying of it in 2020 alone. In partnership with the government of Odisha, a state in eastern India, and with support by Novartis, Jhpiego developed the PRARAMBH program which aims to address three major gaps in breast care —late detection, low awareness and inadequate case management, especially at the primary and secondary levels of the public health system. Learn how healthcare worker, Subhasini Dei of Odisha, India is implementing her training to help educate and spread awareness about breast health to the women she serves. https://lnkd.in/dvfh5sga #BreastCancerAwareness
