A great way of getting peoples ideas of recycling focused on the end product and the positives without forgetting the hard work of everyone involved in waste recycling and management.

Last September a number of households and businesses within Prospect embarked on a 6-month weekly FOGO Collection Trial. This trial involved shifting to weekly FOGO (green) bin collections, and fortnightly collections of general waste (red) bins. After conducting an audit of a selection of bins in the FOGO trial area, we are excited to share some outstanding results: ♻️ FOGO-ers are 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟴% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹 by recycling more resources, achieving an impressive 𝟳𝟬% 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲. 🗑️ This equals 𝟮.𝟵𝗸𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸, 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱! 🍔 𝟰𝟭% 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 in the FOGO-ers bins, as opposed to 14% food of non-participants. We're hitting the freeways, not just to rid them of litter, but to reclaim CRV materials that too often are overlooked. This isn't just clean-up. It's a mission. A mission for cleaner freeways, a better city in the Inland Empire, and ultimately, a greener planet. Every CRV material we collect fuels our fundraiser, a seed for a new kind of recycling initiative right here in our community. We're talking about an initiative that doesn't just deal with trash. It's about educating, inspiring, and transforming the way we see waste - not as an end, but as a resource. This is where you come in. Want to take a small but helpful step towards a cleaner, healthier planet? Read below and then click link to take action. In the US, less than 1 out of 10 plastic products get recycled. Which means that most plastic we use ends up in landfill or is burned. Totally unsustainable and shortsighted. What can business do? Short-term, offset their plastic footprints (for example, Thrive Natural Care is certified Plastic Negative, which means that every Thrive bottle purchased by a customer now pulls two plastic bottles from ocean or land-bound waste.) Longer-term, companies need to push the envelop on packaging, to reduce and eliminate single-use plastic from their products. What can citizens do? First, use and advocate for better recycling in our communities. Second, support good causes that raise awareness and take tangible action to clean up plastic from some of our planet's most remarkable places. No one should enjoy their work this much. 😏 Two waste-obsessed Hubbubers meet their first can-crushing reverse-vending machine. The Irn-Bru stood no chance. ♻️ The delight on Kirsty Alexander & Rosie Sharp's faces is a pleasure to watch - it's just a shame that this feels like a novelty. These machines, at Lidl GB in Glasgow, were bought in anticipation of a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) coming in Scotland, with 20p added to cans, plastic or glass bottles - which you could get back through machines like these. It keeps getting delayed. Countries like Germany and Norway, which have working DRS schemes, recycle about 90% of their targeted drinks packaging. It's not the only answer to our vast packaging problems. The shift to reuse is vital. But with tens of billions of cans and plastic and glass bottles hitting the UK market every year, could DRS be a huge improvement? If it brings this much happiness, count me in... 😉 ++ P.S. What are you doing this weekend? Two of the founders of SAASTEPS are enjoying a holiday market where we spread cheer and education about upcycling and sustanability. This is what we do when we are not selling flawless revenue software to our customers. Fun fact about a challenge I was given this year by my Co-Founder and wife. I was asked to not take our garbage out for as many months as we can. We were able to make it (7) seven months not taking out our garbage to the curb. We eliminated 27 trips of our personal garbage going to the dump. We do this by using reusable bags, containers, glassware, etc. We rarely contribute to the landfill which is our way to give back to Mother Earth. During the week at SAASTEPS we focus all our energy to build the most sustainable end-to-end comprehensive revenue solution available for anyone to self-implement. March 8th is National Biobased Products Day… The second annual National Biobased Products Day is just around the corner... And we invite you to celebrate! National Biobased Products Day is an annual date designed to raise awareness of biobased products—how they’re made, what they’re made from, their many benefits, and the wide variety of products available for use at home, in the office, on the playground, at construction sites and even in landscaping. This is not a USDA specific program or event. Instead, National Biobased Products Day is a collective effort and opportunity for all of us within the bioeconomy to bring attention to the great work being done to improve sustainability, grow U.S. manufacturing, jobs and the bioeconomy, and benefit rural communities. To celebrate, we encourage you to: •  Plan some type of event—large, small or virtual. •  Get local kids involved by holding a poster or story contest. •  Host an educational webinar to showcase your agency’s sustainability efforts. •  Spread the word to let others know about National Biobased Products Day.
