It is time to look ahead after a busy week in Rome an gear up for the grand finale of the EIT FAN Helsinki program in 2024. 🔥 The cohort this year is formed by 10 truly fascinating European startups leaving their mark on the futures of food. Each one having their moment in the spotlight at the Futures of Food side event at Slush. Below are short introductions on the first three of them. 👇 🍣 Esencia Foods uses mycelium, the root of fungi, to recreate culinary whole cuts, starting with fish and seafood aiming to advance to alt-meat products. Solid state fermentation as their approach, they are truly reshaping what we will find on our plates. Pitching on stage you will find the Co-founder, Hendrik Kaye.  🚀 Ironic Biotech develops a new generation of plant-based iron with bioavailability comparable to meat. Produced using precision fermentation, their solution aims to respond to a global problem: iron deficiency faced by close to 2 billion people. Pitching on stage the Chief Commercial Officer, Eskil Åhlin.  🐟 KIDEMIS is upcycling agricultural sidestreams using solid state fermentation. Excited and proud to announce our new project: Smarterra - Building Tomorrow´s Mediterranean AgriFood Ecosystems Smarterra aims at the build-up of a solid innovation ecosystem in the South of Italy around food and agriculture, with knowledge and innovation sharing from the North. The consortium, led by EY Italy, together with six partners including DEEP Ecosystems, RootCamp - A SpinLab Company, TechBBQ, Comune di Matera and us at Sweden Foodtech. On May 22 and 23, we had the honor of welcoming the world’s brightest minds in agrifoodtech in person and online for the 9th F&A Next Summit.   🌍 The F&A Community connected with a total of 857 leading startups, scale-ups, investors, corporates and other agrifoodtech enthusiasts from 36 countries spread over 5 continents.   👍 Our summit has been well received and was awarded a visitors’ rating of 8.3 out of 10.   🏆 At the closing of the summit, Jord BioScience was crowned winner of the Feike Sijbesma Sustainable Innovation Award 2024, which includes a €25,000 grant prize. This prestigious award recognizes Jord BioScience’s innovative microbial technologies enhancing crop productivity.
